WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions)
#1
Looking back, every few weeks we have a "what should I buy thread". Figured instead of further shitting up an already shitty forum we may as well consolidate. I also didnt see a place that already had these requests joined togehter aside from the Spend Jake's money thread.

Things to consider including:

Vehicles general use
Price range
Manual/Auto/Flappy paddle
Engine
AWD/FWD/RWD
Door # / Body Style
MPG

Yay or Nay?

Hoping to get rid of the Prius first of the year and starting to look.

DD, that is fun to drive, comfy, and has some nice tech inside.
Sub $25k
2012<
<50k miles
Manual or DSGish, prefer DSGish so the wife can drive
Turbo or NA 4cyl
Wagon or 4dr Hatch

My current front runners 16+ Grand Touring Mazda 3 hatch 6spd, or dare I say a DSG VW sportwagen SE or SEL

I am leaning VW for some strange reason....
More room, potential to do APR tune, and DSG would be fun and allow the wife to drive.

TSX wagon is on the list but i dunno, they are still in the high teens low 20s with 40k, shitty auto trans, and old tech

What cars am I missing?

GTI or 328xi

For no reason other than everything I do is correct.

Let this sink in, my Miata is faster than this

Justin you already know what to do. Go test drive them and then decide.

I'd say VW because boost in the low end will be a lot more fun than a regular N/A 4 in the Mazda3.

If you want to feel at home there is always the Prius V

Definitely drive a V60. I loved the car and was convinced we were going to buy one, until we sat behind the wheel. The hood is so high, it felt way too much like driving an SUV. YMMV.

Lancer Sportback Ralliart? This is 2 years older than your cap with very low miles, but you could probably find one newer.

Be warned that with the Golf Sportwagen you're getting a regular tiptronic automatic, not a DSG.

It's also worth noting that the rear leg room is unchanged between the short & long variations of the Golf, so the only thing you gain is about ~8 cubic feet of cargo room.

If you're considering the Mazda3 I'd take a look at a CPO GTI DSG. Get a 16+ SE or Autobahn, or if it's a '15 make sure it has the performance package. You'll get a magical limited slip diff, massive brakes, and the ability to tune for 300hp+ without changing anything else if the mood strikes you.

If you care less about performance I think the Sportwagen/Alltrack, or CPO V60/XC60 would be a solid move. My co-worker is on his second XC60 and loves it. It's like driving a sensory deprivation tank but kind of in a good way.
Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan

Then: 18 VW GTI Autobahn | 95 BMW M3 | 15 VW GTI SE | 12 Kia Optima SX | 2009 VW GTI | 00 BMW 540i Sport | 90 Mazda Miata | 94 Yamaha FZR600R | 1993 Suzuki GS500E | 2003 BMW 325i | 95 Saab 900S

Aren't Volvo's horrible to maintain?

I hadn't really thought about a GTI, parts of me really want the room of a wagon.

Focus ST is out, everything I have read and hear from owners is that it's garbage. Plus I'm outta monster, and sold my monster t-shirts when I sold the Forester.

Buy a VW, dip your toe in the water its nice and warm. That might be coolant draining on your feet, but whatever, its got warranty.
