Ugh my wife's car does this, not a squeak but a "shuffle" sound just at one point of the steering, near full lock. My wife can't hear it, but I can and it drives me bonkers. I don't drive it enough to necessitate a fix, but I remember it the once a month I drive it
The other fun thing? It smells like hot coolant every time you shut it off if you walk by the hood. The reservoir is full and I can't find any leaks in 9 months of smelling it. I just have to wonder if its one of those "Land Rover" things.

Your coolant isnt spewing all over your driveway be happy!
I had the same thing with the Audi, it was a common o-ring failure on a coolant outlet. If you really want to fix it get some UV dye, otherwise top off the reservoir twice a year.

I haven't had to fill in it over a year and a half since I did the water pump when we bought it. hrug:

So I did a thing....
But on this topic, the financing language does state no penalty for early payment although my finance guy said that they have anecdotal evidence of VW financing going after people who close the loans withing 90 days to try to get some of the incentive pricing back. It sounds like their loan portfolio got crushed by all the buy backs so that's why they are offering all the incentives and they really want all of the loans to fully process.
FWIW I got 2.9% through VW, which is only about a quarter off what my credit union would offer (maybe I need a better credit union?) - ends up being ~$150 over the life of the loan.
EDIT: I also put a good chunk down, if you finance the whole thing obviously that difference will be higher. Apparently you have to finance at least $20K to get the incentive pricing.

Thanks for all the information, guys! My situation is a bit more complicated because I don't know who I want to refinance through. Still trying to figure out my banking situation. I want to get rid of the 4runner loan through my bank so I can just start fresh somewhere else.

I did dealer financing on the GTI and ended up with 2.49% at the credit union we use anyway. I always negotiate price before I tell them if I have a trade in or financing. I learned that lesson after ending up with a balloon payment on the S4. Good news about that is I unloaded it before the payment was due because I feared the turbos going.

2.9% isnt terrible. I'd live with that.

I feel like getting a bank that only exists up here is admitting defeat and accepting I'll be stuck in Nova for the foreseeable future.

I have gone to a bank concerning my auto loans exactly zero times in my lifetime. The actual location doesn't matter much.

That's not what I'm talking about at all.
My current bank is in Roanoke which is making selling the car a pain. If I ever need a lot cash, I have to call the bank and get the limit raised and take out 1000 $20 bills. It's a pain. That's what I'm talking about.
For Day to day banking, I say stick with a larger company. But I rarely use anything the branch provides outside of an ATM, since now all accept deposits. Unless you are stashing away a large sum.
When you shop around for financing, location doesn't matter IMO.
Credit union will almost always be better for Auto loans vs a bank.
I get a .5% discount since I'm employed by WF. But VACU was still .25% lower.

Yes, it is. I've sold cars with liens and never had to go into a bank. We outlined the steps somewhere on this message board.
Do your day-to-day with a local bank.
The two don't need to be the same institution, but it seems like you think it does.

Find a bank with either free use of anyone's ATMs or will reimburse you like PNC. You can get a checking account with 'online' banks like Fidelity - they allow use of any bank ATM for cash.

Neato, that all makes sense. I'll definitely look into it then. How is PNC?

No problems to report here. Don't have any loans through them. Just checking/savings. They are everywhere in MD. Not sure where they are in Virginia, but I think they are in 9 states.
