Yeah, I had that in my cart when I asked... I just wasn't sure if OEM paint from a third party seller was legit. I was hoping I could just order it from VW's site, but I can't find it. There are no other reds, but I want to double check the paint code before I order.

If you actually use your dealer for service (basically have a relationship with them) and they have a bodyshop, they may mix you up a touch up bottle for free (if they use a paint system that can do it, not sure if water based paints can be mixed the same)
Any bodyshop can do it but I just don't know their willingness or if they have a way to even charge for something like that. But if you were a customer at a bodyshop, they'll usually give you a touch-up bottle for free.
But might be easier just a buy a bottle from 3rd party

I'm gonna give the dealer a call and see if I can talk them into a bottle. I just had the car there for the one year service, so they'll see I'm still giving them money. I just haven't had time because I've been dealing with jury duty.

Is it the Scranton Strangler?
For someone who has no problem spending thousands on watches, lawn care, home automation and all sorts of other BS, you are going through a lot of mental gymnastics over a $20 bottle of paint that will last you for the life of the car :bootyshake:

I've had good luck with "automotivetouchup.com" even though it sounds vaguely scammy.
I prefer to buy the 1/2 oz bottles of paint and get these little microdabber things: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/store/a...s-100.aspx instead of buying the pens. It's really easy to overdo it with a brush or the marker tip most of the pens have.

Money isn't the problem. Fixing it properly is what's important to me... and I've literally never bought touch up paint before.

I will say that the tornado red touch up paint from the dealer is 'ok', but not great... I won't fill in the deeper chips or cuts, but will mask them from far away. I have used it for a lot of rock chips on the hood, bumper, and fenders, so that water won't get under the paint, but it's not the same; I can tell there's an issue every time i wash the car...
I can post pics if you want.

Finally got around to finding my paint code (LY3D) and ordering paint from them. I have the steady hands of a raging alcoholic , so this should be a cool experience. I also ordered some sweet ricer bits, so I'm posting the before photo.

Stage 1 Ricer complete. Think I gained like 15 hp or thereabouts.
The wife says there's still too much chrome, so now I'm looking at different headlights. I got zero packages on this car and it looks like the halogens can be replaced with upgrades that better match the lighting package - adding the red stripe. Ooooo. Ahhhh.

Oh but the strip doesn't match my grill, so now were talking one of these.

I'm not actually sold on the black, but it's an easy swap so I'll drive with it for a bit and see how it manages. I have another thing on order that I'll wait to talk about once they're installed. That might help the black emblem seem more in line... who knows. I might do all this just to undo it. This is how this shit starts...
