RJ pretty much nailed it. A 2011 Competition package with no other options popped up and is THE car to have for SCCA FS class. Adding the fact that its got the proper harnesses for baby seats, V8 sounds, and would force me to mostly leave it stock instead of the inevitable S54 swap I was planning for the E36....
I might keep the E36 anyway, haven't decided. Wouldn't make sense to keep both but I couldnt help staring at the e36 while walking away from it parked this morning....

Listing it for $14k to the general public, if someone is seriously interested itll be $13k for MMers. I am trying to see if I can get the numbers to work so I can keep it as well as the new car.

our version of that car was the 2.5RS, which was the WRX body with a neutered driveline from the outback wagon and none of the cool interior bits. different bumpers too. its part of the reason its so easy to swap an old 2.5RS to a turbo driveline....it was always meant for it from the start.
'Goodspeed Wrote:they were losing their collective minds so true. i'll never forget the car and driver issue where they pitted it against the S4 and everyone was getting into new levels of hyperbole over the WRX's 0-60 time. but nobody mentioned what you have to actually do to get that....so everyone went out and did redline-bomb launches to replicate the time and thus started the amazing legend of the "glass" WRX transmission. fun times.

Keep talking 1) finding a properly swapped RS is hard, because lots of people get the turbo engine in, then either run out or money or energy to swap in the proper LSD/DCCD (electronically bias-able center diff) tranny and matching R180 rearend. and bigger WRX brakes. then they blow it all up anyway because they run the wrong oil, or too much boost, or do 7k RPM clutch dumps and scatter the tranny bits all over the road. 2) the ones that are done right are $$$ 3) what's left of the stock 2.5RS's are either going up in price exponentially these days (they didn't make a lot, and they're all getting swapped now anyway) or are rusted out shitboxes from new england...and they're getting more expensive too. 4) the sneaky play around that, is to start with a cheap outback sport instead of an RS sedan, convert it to the JDM turbo WRX wagon bumpers/wings, and have your swap be 10x cooler than the RS to start (i'm not being ironic just because you have the Chariot, the coolest subarus are old turbo wagons). so what i'm trying to say, is that WRX for sale above is actually a deal and will be what Type R's and Supras are in about 10 years, if it stays the way it is.

They even had the "WRX/RS" hood with scoop and vents: Functionally, it's just a neutered version of the wrx just like the 2.5RS, only a hair slower. Compare to my Grail Subie, the Gravel Express: It's the same Chassis, the GC. You insert the WRX motor just like you would with a 2.5RS, but you get a wagon instead of the coupe. (Or sedan I guess but why.) Having said that, for 11k just buy one from Japanese Classics do not pass go do not collect $200. It'll be cheaper, more reliable, and worth more long-term than any swap.
