Bryson Mira, 2009 VW Jetta
#1
Hi all,

My name's Bryson Mira and I'm a freshman engineering major from Richmond, Virginia (specifically Midlothian) and I drive a MK5 Jetta. Ever since I was little and started with Hot Wheels, I've always been obsessed with cars and I especially got into the car culture when I first got my license and my hand-me-down Jetta. I have worked on it a little bit (mostly just exhaust, wheels, lights, interior modifications, etc...), but am especially interested in learning more about the capabilities of its engine and tracking it with some more intricate modifications in the future. Overall, I'm mostly looking forward to learning more about motorsports, while also just having a good time talking about cars. Big Grin

Welcome! I really loved my MKV, more than it loved me. I always really liked the happy-puppy styling of that generation.

Welcome Bryson! Always great to have a Jetta in the club! Just don't race any Honda 2000s for pinks.

Welcome! Pics aren't working for me, try hosting on imgur or using tapatalk to upload them.

Details on the Jetta? 2.5? Manual? I've owned my fair share of crappy Jettas.

Thanks for all the welcomes! My Jetta is, unfortunately, an auto (I know, I know) and has the 2.5l I5 (SE trim). This has somewhat limited my decisions as to working on it, but I'm thankful that it's held up pretty well for a first car. I'm really thinking about perhaps an older VW with a VR6 as something of a track car / build on the side, but also am a fan of the manual wagons VW usually puts out as a potential future daily. All in all, I'm now sworn into the VW brotherhood but am happy with my Jetta and won't get too many ideas so as not to be beaten too badly  Still, it would be fun to try and get my Jetta around the track at some point Smile

MY MAN. One of my early cars was a mk4 tornado red Jetta with a VR6, magnaflow exhaust, sounded so good. There's a track prepped R32 at Midatlantic Motorworks (should still be there, haven't been in a while) that's super cool. The cars just cost a lot to maintain while being track cars. I hope to build a ratty karmann ghia in the future, I just need the sound of a loud, air cooled 4 banger in my life.

Cool car. Burn it with fire. I may or may not still be bitter about mine Wink

Welcome to MM!
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Welcome!

For now, I'd recommend just using the Jetta for whatever entry-level motorsports you want to try out. Even with the automatic, it'll be more than fine for some autocross or Hyperdrive/HPDE.

VR6's are funky and sound good, I do support that idea down the road Wink
