WRXtranceformed Wrote:Our company developed a free website, originally intended for high school students, to help them figure out what they want to do with their lives and use actual workforce data to educate them about their job outlook and earning potential where they live. I wish I had something like this when I was in high school, I mean things ended up fine but who knows where I would be if I could have made a more informed decision about what I want to do with my life:

https://www.findyourcalling.com/

I would encourage anyone who is still in school to sign up and fill out a profile. It makes tailored recommendations for you on career choices and could give you some guidance if you haven't picked a major yet. It then ties the education you need to potential jobs and shows workforce data behind what's out there in your region and how much you can make. Cool stuff! Our CINO presented this at the White House a few years ago.

I wish I had a website or was more aware of my surroundings when I was first looking around at careers. I ended up doing business/finance because that is basically what my mom chose. I don't think I really thought about it and mom was business major who worked as bank manager, while my dad got his PhD in Advanced Mathematics but was a government contractor. I would like to think my ambivalence is because my father died while I was in high school and I pretty much drifted through junior-senior year of high school, but I think it's more most people really dont think they know what they want to do after college.

I do alright but I do have to wonder if I would have found more of a passion for work if I had gone into a physics or engineering major.

If I had the capacity for math (my brain just doesn't work that way) I would have hands down been an engineer. I would have found the reward of actually creating things with a tangible output as very rewarding. At least that's how I envision it would have gone. :dunno:

Credit score was 817... opened that new Citi Prestige and now it's 826.

Unfortunately, I've flipped my credit cards and simplified mortgages, etc. enough that my credit age is rated as "poor" with an average of 17 months. I guess I'll be keeping the Capital One card with a zero balance since it's the second oldest at 26 months. I guess age isn't really that important given my score. #humblebrag

Hey Lee, I found out where the annual fee goes: packaging.

What was the incentive for you to pick this one over of the Chase Sapphire Reserve?

Bigger sign on, fourth night of hotels free, lower authorized user fee, and entertainment is 2 points per $... which we do a lot of.

Entertainment = live theater, concerts, live sporting events, movie theaters, amusement parks, zoos, aquariums, circuses, museums and art galleries.

I think they're pretty close, it's just a matter of what you do more of.

The wife made first use of free lounge access when traveling with the kid. My mom was traveling with them and will now be signing up for the same card.

It's just the Alaska Airlines lounge.

I'd pay anything not to have to associate with mouth breathers.

That's actually not true because memberships are stupid expensive, but I'll take it as a free perk.

It's a good idea to read this article and apply a credit freeze with all 3 agencies since this breach. Equifax is free for the next 30 days, Experian didn't charge me, and TranUnion cost a $5 processing fee. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/consum ... ch-n800776

Experian didn't even accept my request and took $10. I guess I have to mail them.

Trans Union is down I guess.

Equifax couldn't process the request.

I had to call TransUnion and do it over the phone with their automated system. Same with my wife. Looks like their site is just overrun.

I had not heard Equifax was doing it for free, that's good news thanks!

Experian worked after a second submission. TransUnion automated call system worked great. Still waiting on Equifax to get their stuff together. Not about to send snail mail for a credit freeze in 2017.

This breach is pretty scary IMHO. I already have credit monitoring services free of charge thanks to the OPM and Home Depot Breach. Fucking lame.

It is scary. Credit monitoring is nice, but not really going to help. If you are getting an alert it's already too late. Best thing to do is freeze your credit as noted in the article I posted earlier.

I mean, semi-serious question - are we reaching a point where literally every citizen with a credit history is or soon will be exposed to identity theft, hacking & assorted thievery? What happens when the new normal becomes everyone being compromised? I've lost track of how many major breaches there have been lately, but I'm guessing with this, Target, OPM and a few others, we might not be far from that point....
