navin Wrote:I live down the street from that apartment you posted Taylor. Nice area, the complex next to it has detached garages as well. I commute to arlington everyday from the area, really not that bad. If you are in Tysons you can probably take advantage of the backroads to make your drive a bit more fun. Which apartment?

Whoops - meant to say down the street from that apt complex.

SlimKlim Wrote:![[Image: 9mwI6sG.png]](http://i.imgur.com/9mwI6sG.png) Genuinely curious. Back in my day (10-12 years ago), Arlington was a good spot because you generally commute against traffic, or are close to DC if you go in. Why cut it off at the beltway?
I know Tyson's has turned into a Shmashmortion, but have things changed that much?

It's more of a personalized map based off of what Taylor has told me he wants. He wants something pretty affordable with at least a 1 car garage and an additional parking spot. If it was someone that wanted to be walkable to bars and didn't need a garage I'd definitely be recommending closer to the city. Jake would know more about commuting around there than me.
I think the trick to NOVA commuting no matter where you are is learning all your alternative routes like Jake said earlier. I have like 6 different routes I can take so I can check traffic and avoid wherever happens to be particularly bad that day, I usually end up going around 28 in the afternoons.

So I spent some time with Joey today and he done learned me good. We drove basically through hell and back and we covered all the bases. It was nice to see the areas I was looking at on the internet and make connections of what works and what doesn't. We realized that this one place 2 miles away from his place was a perfect fit so I stopped by after I left and I realized that these apartments have an option to have your garage actually attached to your apartment with a door. I'll be giving them a call on Monday to see what can be worked out.

Try to shift your schedule a little to make your life easier. A friend was just staying with us in Reston this past week, and working for a couple of days with a company in Tysons - it took over an hour to get back to Reston leaving in the middle of rush hour.
Either that or ride a motorcycle and you can cut through the neighborhood connecting sterling and great falls.

Zach and I have an apartment at The Village at Potomac falls. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Village+at+Potomac+Falls/@39.0464071,-77.4256507,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b639820e37c37b:0x89a773cccbeb9fe!8m2!3d39.046403!4d-77.423462">https://www.google.com/maps/place/Villa ... -77.423462</a><!-- m -->
We're about 2 miles from Joey and a pretty solid location otherwise. The apartment is REALLY nice, as in the nicest place I've ever lived (Compared to 2 double wides, a farm house, Eagle hall, and Copper Beech). Best of all, I HAVE A GARAAAAAAAGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I'm over the moon about it. I've dreamed of having a garage for my car ever since I started driving.
It's a pretty standard size, but even my truck fits with a couple of feet on both ends so I definitely have room for some shallow shelves on the other end.
That said, Zach and I need furniture and other small things to make this house livable, and we're both on the wrong side of broke right now, I'll be in a tight spot because I have to pay 2 months rent there and at JMU before I get my first paycheck, but after that It'll only be up from there. So, do any of you alums have cheap furniture, cabinets, house items, etc for sale or loan for us? I might make a separate post for it.
We have a sofa and TV stuff and even a recliner, but no tables, or dining room chairs, trash cans, stuff like that.

We give NoVA a lot of guff but there is an alluring charm to the craziness of it, kind of like that chick you just couldn't quit when you got drunk in college. While you will grow to hate it you will also grow to appreciate it.
If you lived closer I would be glad to donate a few things. But honestly bro, Craigslist. You a young bachelor out on the hustle, ain't no shame in the Craigslist special couches. I rocked a few all the way up until I got married and that chit didn't fly any more with wifey (I came home from a business trip and somehow her tiny frame figured out how to drag my favorite broke ass old hammock couch to the curb before the trash man showed up). You should be able to do the same
Heck, a few months ago I no joke replaced the washer and dryer I got on Craigslist almost 10 years ago

Here's an album. Pretty standard as far as the other apartments I've seen, but I'm very excited. Stainless appliances! Ground floor too. It's going to be so cozy.

Looks nice and spacious. I don't have anything extra to donate so I second Craigslist.

I think I've got two "black wood" Ikea end tables. They're like $7 each new so you can just have them.
Congrats, btw! It's a pretty cool feeling to walk in to a nice apartment like that (even nice college places are not the same) and be like "oh, shit, this is mine now."
