And yeah, newer GMs that haven't had time to fall apart yet look pretty nice. A friend of mine had a new Sierra Denali (1500) as a press car over the winter and the interior was piiiiimp. Drove really well, too. I'm not sold on MyLink (used it in the Tahoe rental I had) but I have heard they made it faster/better since I last used it.

Honestly I feel like one owner on high mileage cars isn't necessarily a good thing. It means they kept it forever but something made them decide to get rid of it. Maybe that something is that it started to become a piece of shit and have problems constantly. My old Xterra was one owner up to 130k miles too.

I don't see any GM 2500s falling apart unless they have a lot of miles or are old like any other vehicle so not sure where the haven't had time to fall apart comes from unless you are referring to the gas models which happens the same with f150s as well...

No complaints yet here on reliability! The new gen of the multimedia interface is pretty great too, especially with Android Auto / Apple carplay

Who has watched 4-5 racers blow up their Ford trucks leaving them stranded and never seen any GMCs do the same... Goes quickly to *knock on wood* since I run my high horsepower tunes and I think my fuel pump is finally saying its last goodbyes when I am at full load at 20500lbs up a hill. :lol:

He's been all-electric, it will be interesting to see if this is more of a "hybrid". You have a lot of room for batteries and could still fit an on-board turbo-diesel 4-cyl to charge them on the go.

Agreed. That is what a lot of people are speculating. It's going to need an engine to recharge the batteries or a metric fuck ton of batteries on board for long hauls.

I will be surprised if they go that way based on the companies ethos. It's probably some ridiculous workaround they've come up with that we will all ridicule until suddenly it works and has become normal.

:lol: oh I know I'm just saying, I've been surprisingly happy with my truck! I say surprisingly because my experience with my old Caddy was less than stellar.

I may give the Ranger a hard look when they come out (especially if they made a Raptor version) but I'm honestly so pleased with this thing I may end up doing a few more mods and keeping it for a while

This makes a lot of sense. If it takes over an hour to fully charge a Tesla car, imagine how long it would take a charge the amount of batteries you would need to power a semi truck over long-haul distances. It is pretty likely that most companies couldn't afford to have trucks sitting for hours on end to charge batteries when they run out.

I know a good bit about the logistics industry as I had a number of clients in the local delivery and OTR space and they have been talking about this and "driverless" trucks for a long time. It is kind of inevitable with the increasing need for trucking due to ecomm and the severe lack of people who actually want to be truck drivers anymore. To compound the issue, over half of all truck drivers are headed toward retirement within the next 10-15 years. Having hybrid autonomous trucks with a "pilot" to take over during emergencies or precision driving really isn't that far off due to the economics and necessity of it

I would be surprised if even if you covered the entire trailer with solar panels if it would charge that kind of battery capacity at all to make a difference, even in the best 100% sunny conditions. If it's cloudy, rainy, or nighttime you're gonna need something powerful to keep the batteries charged

Maybe they cracked the code and the solar panels will fully recharge while you're visiting ye olde glory hole at your next truckstop.

I think the problem with solar is that it is extremely hard to store. If i am correct any energy that is harnessed via solar has to be sent back directly to the grid because there is no reliable way to store it.

Pretty sparse article, but basically Nissan/NISMO is going to start manufacturing parts for old cars again starting with the R32, then 33/34, 300zx, and Z cars down the line.

It makes those cars way more attractive in my eyes if OEM parts are readily available vs praying that part pops up in a semi usable condition on a forum/craigslist/ebay.

That is awesome. A lot of parts are dying out for the MKIV and it's the main topic of discussion now in that community vs. making all the horsepowers. A shifter surround panel for a '97/'98 6 speed car is a name-your-price item now. The whole trans was discontinued by Getrag (shared with the R34 so interesting to see what happens there); a guy in Holland makes aftermarket gears/syncros etc currently - but tons of other little bits and pieces are gone (the "Discontinued Parts" thread on Supraforums is 10 pages long.)

I've often thought a solid business case could be made for starting a parts repro company like Year One and all the other domestic muscle/classic car/truck companies for import cars. Pretty soon the push to find OE parts from everything from a CRX to a MKIV is going to be very, very strong I would think - though a lot of questions remain on how collectible, & how many people will want to do full resto's on many of these cars. The MKIV, yes, but there were a little under 11,500 sold in the US in total, and making molds for just a few interior panels would cost 6 figures. I'm hoping 3D printing takes care of a lot of future demand...
