Obligatory project creation thread. Not much will go on here.
2012 Miata GT soft top with premium and suspension package.
Plans: RoadsterSport Race Muffler, tune, StopTech street pads, dot4 fluid, pilot super sport tires and lighter wheels, and maybe a hard top/rollbar.
Car will be doing most of the DD duty and auto-x a few times a year. Hopefully it's as reliable as my 3 has been so far.
Paint isnt really great. I may purchase a griot's buffer and touch up paint to make a small correction on the paint sometime in the spring.

Ya dun good there. I like the color combo! I'm looking forward to watching the mod list grow as you descend down the bottomless rabbit hole that is 'otter ownership
Now you just need to get an E36 and you'll be a true MM Alum
2008 4Runner
1974 CB360
2015 FJ09
Yeah, that's why I said maybe on the hard top.
I hope the mod list doesn't grow.... trying to stay in street class. It's a hoot to drive as is
Yeah just need a BMW now and I can be welcomed into the MM family...
I forgot but I should give Scott a huge thank you for coming out last minute to take a quick look at the Miata. Much appreciated to get a second opinion on some things from someone who knows these cars well.
Edit: Also, I was getting ~30mpg on the highway at like 3500rpm in 6th. Higher than my Mazda3.. but it pulls well without having to downshift which was nice. Going up mountains on 64 by Waynesboro this thing didn't sweat it in 6th and could accelerate.

I love that color combo, a lot. Always thought the NC2's were super sharp cars that just needed about a 1" drop. Would look tits even on the stock wheels.
FWIW, my dad's 2013 has the suspension package and he claims the LSD gets him around a bit of snow with no real hassle (on all-seasons, not summers). The stock head unit has Bluetooth for phone calls but not music streaming, which is a pain. I've borrowed his and really enjoyed it, just wish I fit a bit better. You should have a ton of fun with yours, congrats

Yes, I really like the tan/deep blue combo. Unfortunately if I want to stay in street class I can't lower it or I'd give it a small drop. I can't decide if want to go rpf1 or keep the stock wheels yet. It's going to be a hard decision besides a few pounds each corner.
I probably won't drive this car in snow at all and take the truck if needed. This thing is virtually rust free.
I don't mind the Bluetooth without streaming. Not sure if I'd take this on long trips to matter too much.
I feel like I'm about cut off height to fit. Anyone 6 foot and over would have a not so fun driving it for longer periods of time.

Why not go STR class? Simple I/H/E boltons and you can do mild suspension stuff. Still a simple street-car bolt-on class and you can make the car more awesomer. Example:

Not sure if I want to spend the money on modding it past street as the factory Bilsteins have felt fine for now. I shall see in auto-x on how it feels once I get decent tires

They are easy to find, they just make NA/NB tops look cheap in comparison $$$$

No problem, glad I could help.

Miata's are magical in the snow with snow tires. I hardly drive my truck in the snow.

Yeah I can buy a trailer for the cost of one nee...

Meh, I feel better knowing 4wd drive is there just in case but if it snows the company tells everyone to work from home anyways so I guess it doesn't matter too much right now

Opinions on leaving car unlocked vs locked? Rather some idiot not destroy soft top but not sure how anti-theft these cars are...

What Dave said. I don't think people normally cut tops because they are trying to steal the car though. They are usually looking for valuables. Just don't leave anything of value in the open (or in the car at all for that matter) and you'll probably be fine.

Please please please please... Eeven I...yes me....yes I was not drunk, have considered an STR NC. I love NC miatas (sorry not a big fan of NB/NAs).
Isssss nice.....

This is what I do. Never leave anything of value in there and leave the doors unlocked with the soft top up.
Hard top, lock the doors.
No one wants to steal a modern car, in your case, as it's too hard without the keys, but if they see something they want, it's a broken window or a cut top to get to it. Sure, steal my $50 head unit, but don't ruin my car in the process.
But in the end, I lock the doors often, but there's no rhyme or reason I do. I just feel like it some times. For you it should be easy because your passenger side should have a power lock if you don't have a key fob.

Yeah, that's what I was insinuating. I have nothing in that car besides the manual and registration so I think I'll be okay and just leave it unlocked over night. Most other places I'll lock it. As in Taylor said I don't want the top destroyed as it ain't cheap for a cloth top..

Rip comfortable DD... it rides so nice now but wow that looks real good. Was planning on RPF1's as well but damn getting a full set of wheels and tires is not cheap... I guess I'll start with street and see where it takes me. Time to read up on STR mod rules though and start pricing things...
Edit: looks like the wheels and tires on my 3 will also fit an NC... just need a fender roll, oh boy. This could get interesting.

I've always locked my convertibles, it's peace of mind for me. I leave absolutely nothing in sight and have never had any issues.
I figure my insurance (full coverage, have it) would replace the roof if it was slashed, but it'd be harder to get them to pay out for theft or whatever if I admitted the car was left unlocked.

My insurance company suggested that I never lock the Miata, their reasoning was that there is nothing more valuable to replace than the soft top if someone really wanted to get in. That being said, I've always locked mine and a couple weeks ago my Miata was broken into with the hardtop on. Seems you can separate the glass from the window seal far enough to unlock the door if you are trying hard enough.
Buddy left his jeep unlocked all the time....but still went through a soft top every 6 months parking in the fan. Criminals are dumb....
