Need advice from the Jeep faithful
#1
So my dad is starting to look at what he wants to do next in his life, and has decided he wants a Wrangler to tow behind an RV. He asked me for advice, and since I know exactly zip, nil, and squat about jeeps beyond what wikipedia can tell me, I thought I would see if yall had any great words of wisdom. This is still a ways off, so really I'm looking for advice about what years & engines are desirable/reliable.
Thanks in advance

Do you have to disconnect the driveshaft to tow it behind or can you just put the transfer case in neutral? Off topic, but I'm just wondering how easy they are to tow behind an RV.

Newer old jeeps like early 00's, you could put the transfer case in neutral. I'm not sure about new models but I'd imagine it to be the same

Pretty much the same. XJ's, TJ's, JK's can all be flat-towed with the Transfer case in neutral.

Basically any model TJ will be fine. Stay away from 99/00 as that year was equipped with the 0331 cylinder head which is prone to cracking. Otherwise, the 4.0L I6 paired with automatic transmission is stupid bullet proof. The manuals are equally stout.

Stay away from the early model JK's. The early V6's has a lot of issues based on what I know.

Jeff can also answer most any questions you have if he pops in.
