MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration

PDenbigh Wrote:I think we need someplace private and we literally sign wavers and get our inner hoonigan on. Because the truth is, get this group together and the hoonigan will happen. It's not a question of if, but a question of how many stitches.

Some things I've always wanted to try include:
ATV-powered rope-tow water jump on an innertube
car soccer ala top gear's 3-wheeled episode
adult drift trike
circle track on a motorcycle
hay field rallyx/gymkhana (square or round bales with the occasional cow, tractor, and farmer's daughter)
(just sayin...)

I wish I had a venue to offer Undecided.

Here's a start to the waiver:
"By even considering coming to this event, you will die and your reputation will be totally null and void." Signed:______________

I DO think there needs to be a notable motorsports aspect to this. Organized? Perhaps not. But some sort of memories on 2-4 wheels. This is Madison MOTORSPORTS after all. But I do also agree that perhaps a legit track day might be too chaotic. Thus the hay field idea. Maybe that's my inner West Virgninian coming out?

THUS, I make a motion that:
MM forms a committee of the past MM presidents who can each nominate 1-2 other people to join if they want. Because honestly, doing this democratically will get us nowhere.

If Chan is willing to let us fuck up his property, I am in there like swimwear.

Particularly for the hay field Gymkhana idea. We could also cook up a bunch of vehicular related challenges you know you've always wanted to attempt but would never dare to do on the street. Such as:

1.) Swapping driver & passenger while the vehicle is moving.
2.) Attempting to machine gun targets with a paintball gun while driving through an obstacle course
3.) Playing Cops & Robbers in full sized vehicles

I'm sure we could come up with several dozen automotive related games if we seriously attempted to do it. Seems pretty simple to me, pool together some cash to buy 2 or 3 cheap running cars (surprisingly plentiful in surprisingly good condition when you dont care about passing inspection).

We have so many track people it should be easy to find helmets/hans devices to protect ourselves if someone gets excited and we have a side impact that's a bit too hard. And using the same logic we ought to have enough trucks & trailers between us to transport said vehicles to the venue and to the junkyard afterwards. If someone does manage to put something upside down in a ditch, one of Chan's neighbors would most likely have a tractor and be willing to dig it out and push it onto a trailer for us. :dunno:

That's kind of the point. The main event is the JMU weekend, other events would be for people who want to do them.

For a 15 year anniversary I'd like to see at least some sort of celebratory on track action. Maybe it's just one nasa weekend where all of the MM'ers who ever have or ever wanted to get on track come for one weekend.

I know I'd come for the car show/banquet/autox weekend but I also want to do something somewhere on track. The dream when starting this whole thing is that together we can do cooler, bigger, better things than we could separately.

Frankly I'm struggling to reconcile the fact that the rest of you aren't as stoked up about that idea as I am. Vegas? Conference rooms at JMU? Slideshows? Am I on the Madison Accountant's forum without realizing it?

If you don't get at least a half chub from the idea of spending an entire weekend with vehicles purchased soley for the purpose of destroying in the most fun way possible, entirely unsupervised, on private property, in a town with no HOAs or noise ordinances, and no neighbors to call the cops, then I don't even know why you're here.

Sounds like the best day in the goddamn world to me. Fuck shit up, BBQ, sleep in tents, clean up and go home.

I'm down for buying cars to destroy. I don't think you will have many takers on going to Vegas as it isn't necessarily the cheapest of trips.

And the thing about swapping seats while driving...I think you missed the point in that at some point I can remember doing that. Open road + cruise control + passenger holding wheel and then the old switcheroo.

Sitting in a banquet hall and playing with big wheels...Pass. Sorry, but I sit in enough meetings everyday, and can reminisce just fine through pictures on the interwebs.

We are Madison Motorsports, a fun weekend on a farm sounds great, but logistics are a problem. Autocrosses, exisitng car show etc solves a lot of issues of getting this moving. (Some of these ideas are just going to stall catastrophically).

Combining it with the car show (afterwards we can rent a private hall/drink etc) is a great idea.

Combining it with a track weekend is also a good idea. The only issue with the track is making sure that we have plenty of activities and drinking for those that won't be driving on the actual track. Setting up an MM " karting enduro: at VIR, bringing a couple kegs, cornhole, beer pong, projector/tv and some 4-wheelers and big wheels makes it close enough. Work with Chris Cobetto and allow us an entire "section" to ourselves for tents/trailer/big wheel races, cornhole etc doesn't sound like a big ask if we provide enough participants.

I've always wanted to see if anyone can reliably operate and fire a pump shotgun from a motorcycle at other guys on motorcycles trying to fire shotguns. With birdshot and proper gear on what could possibly go wrong? :dunno:
To MM it up a little you have a chug a beer every time you score a hit.

Touche Polen.

I agree with the logistics argument for a farm party vs. combining it with the car show since that's when the most MMers are in one place anyway. However combining it with a track even its only convenient for people already at the track, and IMO has the same disadvantages as a farm party (having to camp) with none of the advantages of a theoretical farm party (actually getting to hoon our little hearts out).

EDIT: I skimmed over your idea of the karting enduro. That'd make it more fun.

This, all of this, everyone are you listening? I'm in. Give that fan a contract.

Perhaps we could all pool together for a VIR event for our own Kart enduro and our own run group for one session each day for MM'ers to drive and give ride-alongs. I'd throw in for that and take some rides on track.

I just want to impress the young'uns who consider the hammer game a fun activity for the whole family :dunno:

I'm not proposing chaos here, just like, a joust style competition for level 1 and a circle track for level 2. And dismount the motorcycle for drinking or reloading. Safety first of course!

VIR still has that rally course right??? Could do some beater rallycross there with ease.

I've caught some birdshot before, don't hurt too bad.

Although to be fair I'd imagine those little fuckers are carrying a lot less velocity when they rain out of the sky during a pheasant hunt compared to when they're leaving the barrel.

Prolly better to use .22LR pistols with snakeshot, that shit doesn't even break skin after the first 20 feet or so.

its active, and amazing. 3-4 minute run times per go.

if we could find an old 5.0, rx7, or even something like an S-10 pickup you could create one hell of a highlight reel from what we'd end up doing in the name of eternal glory and jackassery.

for instance, look at craigslist for how cheap a V8-swapped s10 is. we could do rally challenges - best air time, keeping an empty keg/blow up sex doll in the back while driving on course, longest drift etc

I will just say that I for one do not like the idea of trying to plan a formal car show for the hangout weekend part. I don't think the time and stress of trying to add that to what should be a hangout for us. If you want to meet in a lot that's supposed to be empty and hang out and shoot the shit and see what everyone is driving these days, that's different but that's just my opinion.

The only problem I see with the track weekend is that most of us don't have cars to track. Say though we do track whatever we have(if they let us, I mean I have put a jeep liberty on vir before) but I seriously doubt Cobetto would just say, yea all of mm take your personal cars out for a session. If everyone registers for a nasa weekend, we would have people scattered throughout groups and levels of prep and we would just be seeing each other in between runs and classroom sessions.

Karting Enduro at the track is a more feasible idea. And of course the hanging out at the track in a giant mm paddock could work too. I wouldn't say close it off from the nasa friends but I feel like I could see some cliques forming where the heavy track guys are over in one corner talking about racing and what happened that day on track (like a normal track weekend) and younger members over in the other corner not knowing what to do or who to talk to.
