Type: 2 doors, 2 seats, front engine... 2500-2800lbs with light weight options, 3200lbs in steel

Engine: V8 with iVtec (aka vtec/vanos combo) 400ish hp high reving

Drivetrain: RWD with LSD

Transmission: 6 Speed Manual

Suspension: Geometry by the ///M division, executed by someone that wont have mounting failures... brakes by brembo

Interior: Suede, carbon fiber, bucket seats in black/grey. Just a radio with bluetooth and two well placed speakers. A/C is an option, heat is "needed." One port for a phone charger

Wheels: Volks/Enkei light weight 17-18inch

Extras? wheel/tire/brake option, quick steering rack, traction control on/off switch, ABS on/off switch, factory roll bar/harness/seatbelt combo, removable data logging/stand alone tuning, CF and titanium body panel replacement parts, factory exhaust/intake upgrades (STI ish options), rear view mirror with radar detector

I think if you can get a base car around $40k... and start adding light weight options, "track" options, etc would be $$$$ options

for the E92, it would need the rear wheels pulls back a little and shrink the overall length/do something with the backseat that shouldnt be there. did they chassis tearing issues? also needs all the factory shiny bit upgrades and light weight pieces

Let's just project this on my truck.

Body: Basically my truck now but with High clearance bumpers, sliders, small roof rack, and a bed rack with a Roof Top Tent mounted to it. Rear bumper with a swing out tire carrier and jerry cans. Full skids from motor back


Type: 4 door (2 normal, 2 suicide) extended cab long bed.

Engine: Diesel V6 Full snorkel.

Drivetrain: Selectable 4wd with multiple transfer case ratios with front and rear lockers

Transmission: 6 speed AUTOMATIC (For rock crawling, duuuhh)

Extras? Oh boy. On board Air-compressor, rock lights under the body, huge cargo lights. Slide out stove on the tailgate. Potable water tank. Cameras all around to see obstacles. Dual battery setup. Larger fuel tank. Toolbox built under bed rack.

My fantasy car company would build old school-looking cars with modern underpinnings, basically a pro touring factory. Gorgeous sheetmetal on the outside and interiors on the inside, with current running gear and suspension technology, albeit maybe scaled back a a bit for lack of complexity's sake.

Something like the Holden Efijy concept for cruising:



And same vein of the Equus Bass:



And then re-imaginations of other classics - a little roadster like a Maser 250F with a modern straight 6 would be nice. I know some mfr's like Aston dabble with stuff like this, with in house resto-mod shops that sell back to the public.

There was like 4 corvairs that showed up at the autocross in roanoke..had no idea so many people like those. One was fully prepped and sounded awesome

I always dream of resto mods. I want to find a cheap (lol) E-type coupe shell and chop the roofline by a couple inches and squeeze in as much hardware from an E34 M5 as possible. 3.8L ITB'd solid lifter straight 6, 5 speed manual, big modern disc brakes and whatever you could do to improve the suspension within the confines of 1960s architecture.

Paint that bitch black, throw in a red leather interior and set it on some period correct (but bigger and wider) wire mesh wheels. Oh god the things I would do.

I've also spent many hours fantasizing about tearing an E31 8-series back to the shell and starting over. I've always loved those cars but you can't really argue that those cars weren't a little too complicated for their own good. It was supposed to be the ultimate high-tech 2-door cruiser after all, even more upscale than the 7 series. Now, unless finicky, obsolete old technology really does it for you, the cars are just super outdated. Not a ton of power, and the crappy interior is pretty much indestinguishable from a crappy E36 interior. Not really "upscale".

I'd like to shoehorn an LS1 into one to give it good, reliable power and good highway mileage. I'd make an exhaust that created a more or less "stock" sound so you could slip around town in it without announcing your arrival a half mile in advance, and throw some electric cutouts in after the cats for when you want to let the big girl growl. Update the suspension and throw those polished 18" M-pars that came on the E38/9 M-sports, upgrade the brakes and throw some fancy shocks with adjustable dampening/rebound so you can still set it up to float down the highway like a GT car should.

Then, on the inside I'd throw the same 3-spoke Euro wheel on that I have in the M3, delete the archaic headunit and OBC and replace it with a Nexus 7, which could also pull your water temp/oil temp/oil pressure gauges and set off alarms if it starts to overheat, oil pressure dips or you're driving it too hard before it's warm. You could also use it for all your infotainment needs, cell phone connectibility and if it had GPS it could replace the OBC functions like MPG, avg speed, etc. I'd wrap the headliner in suede and replace the seats with E38/9 sport seats, stripped and redyed that "baseball glove" color.

I'm gonna step away from the BMW crowd here and sorta lay out my fantasy wants:

I <3 wagons. First and foremost. I like practicality in things. Things which can serve multiple purposes within reason. (Yes. I could take my GT2RS camping or out for a night on the town but come the fuck on)
I can't really decide on the body or "shell" if you will but the fantasy car starts at the wagon platform. I like comfort, I like some luxury, but I hate luxury at the expense of everything being so god damn meticulously expensive to put together. There is such a thing as quality and simplicity.

I love the styling of the B5 RS4 avant. The CTS Spec V wagon rustles my jimmies.

Some sort of "wide" fender wagon on 18's with a big ol honking LS1 in it. I like things simple and straight forward. Give me a 6 speed gearbox with just a simple ball shifter and some light leather accents.

AC/Heat. You bet your ass. Don't need the climate control left side/right side bullshit. Make sure it blows hot/cold at my feet, at my face, in the back, and defrosts the windshield.

Seats? They better be grippy and fit my ass like a glove. I think the best seats I have sat in were in Jake's ST. Those things just hugged you right. Make sure they're cloth. Leather gets hot as fuck and I'm lazy with the upkeep.

Quality sound system with minor tech. Navi is fine, Bluetooth for the tunage.

Suspension better be top notch. I don't have much to compare to on cars but if I could I'll sacrifice some of the DD comfort for a well designed suspension which can handle weekend trips mountain carving without making the tires squeal too much.

Brakes better be able to handle the power and the driving.

Exhaust better put that shit eating grin on my face after I let it loose but no so much I'm droning away on the highway or johnny law pulls me over because I just shattered every window on the block from a WOT pull.

This thing should have accents that at first glance you see WAGON. Oh that' just a boring wagon. But on second glance you start noticing there is just something about this thing that says business. That exhaust is a little throaty. Those tires look meaty. Those rotors look massive tucked behind the wheels.

Can you guess where I'm going?

Would someone please tell me who DOES want this? I have yet to drive a car, nor ridden in a car where I'm glad it has "climate control".
1) There is no damn way it can maintain multiple temp zones in the car.
2) You end up fiddling with it almost as much as the good 'ol 3-dial-or-lever approach because it doesn't know how much sun is on your face or what kind of clothes and shoes you're wearing.
3) 5 yrs down the road, it loses a sensor or two or some motorized damper freaks out and the whole thing is crap.
