All good points. I like the 1911 for the nostalgia of the piece, the smoothness and accuracy at higher caliber and the looks. There is something about it that makes it such a dang beast I can't put my finger on it. I have drooled over some of the WC 1911's but I seriously doubt I would ever cashburn that much on a pistol.

I have tried to choose guns for my collection that are either very good examples of what they are or interesting / unique (other than the SR22 for my wife, which we bought because it was not scary for her and is one of the few guns she can fit her tiny hands around) so I guess I will hold out until I can scoop a nicer example. I just thought the price was really low for a 1911.

Took almost every gun I own apart for cleaning today because I had slacked a little between range sessions. Mostly on the 10/22, I had been putting it off because the instructions were really hazy on how to take it apart. Fortunately Youtube is good for just about anything and i found a pretty good tutorial. I wanted to take the bolt and trigger assembly out to give it a deep clean. Upon removing the trigger assembly the hammer spring and strut flew out so I got a crash course in the trigger disassembly and reassembly :lol: There are a lot of little pieces but fortunately it's pretty straightforward. It's funny how necessity sometimes forces you to learn something you should probably know how to do anyway

Any gun magazines you guys recommend? I pick up the latest RECOIL whenever I see a new one in the airport but apparently that mag is run by socialist pigs, or something.

lol. Gun mags are the same as car mags, they're just porn. Best overall gun mag in all honesty? Probably American Rifleman.

Recoil is ok, but it's a "lifestyle" mag, very pretty not much substance.

If you're looking for a serious gun mag, you're looking for something like Small Arms Review or Gun Tests.

Nice, yeah I just look for something that gets me through a couple minutes at a time on the throne. Recoil seems to be more of an advertisement for guns, knives etc. but they do highlight some pretty cool builds and parts so I have kept coming back.

Was looking at the used / new over unders at a local gun shop yesterday and they had the Remington R1 for $599.

If you still want a "Remington" 1911, CDNN has 'em on sale. (But they also have Para Experts for 399)

I've been sending this to everyone I thought needed an AR, which is to say, everyone who doesn't have one. It's a pretty good deal.

However, if you've got the extra 200 bucks, the S&W M&P Magpul edition is...maybe better. I like it better, anyway.

Regardless, that's a great deal for a colt. Only problem is I'd be tearing off the stock, tube, grip, etc etc right off the bat...that turns into a 1k rifle in about 10 minutes to get it 'running'.

Mom sent me home with 2 old guns tonight. First is a Winchester Model 94 Golden Spike made in 1968. Never fired with original box and all manuals. The sliding box cover is in rough shape but the Winchester box itself, manuals and firearm are in mint condition. 30-30 lever action.







Also got a Marlin Model 990 in .22LR. 18 round barrel loaded semi-automatic. It's been shot a few times but is in great condition. This one was made in 1980.



Going through the garage (she sold her house and we are packing her stuff up) I found 3 old ammo cans she let me have. Just need to be cleaned up and stocked full of ammo. One had 20 rounds of old .50 cal machine gun ammo in it.

Maybe I should get into cowboy action shooting :lol:

Just up the road a bit. Downsizing to a one level house with a 3 car garage. Will be much more manageable for her living by herself than the house she's in now.

i have 2 ammo cans similar to the small ones you show. they were for grenade launcher ordinance. i love 'em as bug-out bins in my cars, although i'm probably going to retire them since i'm a bit afraid of them being on the back floorboard next to the kid...they'd be quite a projectile in an accident.

Finally had the Magpul MOE+ grip that my wife bought me for Christmas installed on my AR today. I also had the gunsmith throw on a BAD lever since the he was really cool and did the work for free (he just got back from a tour in Iraq and we talked for a while). I had been considering the lever for a while, read some positive and negative reviews but after initially playing around with it I love it. He runs it on every rifle he owns including his service rifle so that's good enough for me. I will withhold judgement until I get through a few hundred rounds with it but it is super easy to use to lock the bolt open, very natural to pop it closed with the shooting hand index finger, supposedly gives an advantage when clearing jams. He showed me his sweet short barrel (16.5") .308 sniper rifle he built too.

I also got to handle a lightly used Tavor SAR that was priced pretty well ($1500), however it looks like the newness premium has worn off of them and you can find them for a reasonable price now. I really like it. It is a lot heavier than for some reason I pictured it would be and it has a crazy heavy trigger pull (11.5lbs I believe). Giessele and a few other companies make drop in triggers so that would be a non-issue. This one is in black and I would for sure get FDE, but the want is really strong after handling one~!

Speaking of Giessele, I need to have Rex install my trigger into my AR soon. Its been sitting around since November and I'm lazy, but Giessele has got to be the coolest guy in the world so he gets my respect. If you are going to buy a trigger kit, I would 110% buy from Bill Giessele.
