And so it begins......


Started by taping them off after washing with dish soap, I would recommend dish soap over most car soap due to some having "wax" in the soap. Also wiped em down with brake cleaner, you could also use alcohol. Taping em off is by far the most tedious part of the process.


Scuffed with 3M scotch brite pads from Advance Auto. Literally called scuff pads. Then cleaned with a rag and brake cleaner.



got two of em primed. Need to scuff and prime the other 2 then scuff em again. Paint should be here tomorrow.

postit notes work too and are a little faster
bonus if you steal them from work.

once on a beater set of wheels i got free I tried using tire shine then just painted over it. sort of worked, but still had some paint spots on the tire after wiping them off.

Yea I was guna say I've seen playing cards used but note cards are probably cheaper. Guess it depends on the lip of the rim as to how well those methods work. Plasti-dip peels off of tires :wink:

isn't the rubber tucked behind the lip on your peoples' cars? you could spray directly on an not get any paint on the tire.

Sprayed one wheel. Looks like shit. Too much crap flying in the air messing up the finish. Gonna call in the pro. Sending em to my father in law to paint em in his booth, see if he can get better results. Color is what I want though.

Thats 2, I stopped due to the amount of dust/random shit floating in the air sticking to the wet paint.

^ Yeah, and having a tack cloth to wipe down the surface between coats keeps you from trapping shit between the paint.
