this is the exact argument, to the word, i tried to use to reason with my wife for why she wanted an SUV and not a wagon. she didn't want a wagon because her parents had some giantass family truckster and she hated it. i have no idea how she works with DNA every day but somehow makes that weird mental leap with SUVs.

You're going to hang me out to dry on a "driving quickly occasionally" assertion on a forum of motorsport enthusiasts that have street-registered sports cars and regularly drive on the street a little more quickly than is reasonable? That's a bit unfair. As a motorcyclist, you're right, I'm, intimately familiar with where and when it's safe to go quickly. And should I own an SUV capable of laying it down occasionally, you've got to trust that I have the judgement to do so in a reasonable manner. Otherwise, that point's a bit specious at best. I mean, you're basically geographically limiting who can own fast things or assuming that the people that do only go quickly at the track. So let's take that one off the table.
One thing I continue to learn is that I am not special or unique. I'm far from the only person that really does see a lot of usefulness in this type of vehicle. Yeah, I agree that you've got your toolsheds and douchebags running around giving themselves a bad name, but every group has them. I don't think it's reasonable to write off an entire model group based on anecdotal experiences. I guess if you don't think they're useful, then you don't. But I'm not the only person posting here saying "I really can see a role for these vehicles in my life" and I think that speaks for itself.
Nope, not you. You're "driving quickly occasionally" is sensible because of your association to motorsports enthusiast. Not because you're late to work and feel the need to blow a red light at 70, merge between cars at 90, and an overall blatant disregard for sensible driving most of the time. It comes with the car. My statement about motorcyles was directed towards you probably encountering said individual riding. Hell most any person in humungo SUv. Granted that's a blanketed statement but that just how I see it. I've seen people driving them normally but most of the time, no, they don't. Do you like them, does DJ like them, does G. like them? Sure. You're right I don't think of them as completely useful. Hence the title of the thread. Love Em or Hate Em
Ginger Wrote:Oh, and I think it's only fair to point out that I look like a douchebag.
Can't tell if that was mean by you driving the Porsche or do you actually fit the slicked back hair, smug-look, aviator profile? If the latter I apologize. I guess the XJ is fitting for me because it would only be fair to say I sorta look like a redneck..at least if you caught me in my Carhartt get-up
Some can attest to this statement.
So basically if any of us buy a sport SUV we must:
A. Not let our wives/girlfriends drive them
B. Not slick back our hair or wear aviators
C. Always be towing something

D. ONLY drive them offroad. No pavement driving permitted. Better find a mountain you can drive over between your house and your work.

the retardation in this thread is over the top.
On that note, I'd love to see a Top Gear episode where they got a Cayenne Turbo, X5 M, and SRT8 and attempted to do the Baja 1000 or something with them. I imagine it would end up a lot like that failed Ford Raptor jump video. Maybe if I was rich I would try something stupid like that myself.

Clarkson did something along those lines with an X6. Not the Baja 1000 but a good start. I'd support the Baja idea though

So, not considered a real "Sport SUV", but perhaps you could look at something like a new Ford Explorer? 3.5 twin turbo, 365hp/350tq (before the boost knob), 5000# towing. In a year or so they will be on the used market and probably pretty affordable.

And then what did they do with them, throw them in the trashcan?
Hopefully that interior looks better in person.

wait, what is this thing for? I get TESTING such things at a track, but... what customer is taking this on a track? One might see some pace laps. Maybe it's not a tow vehicle since you don't need to tow anything, is also race car! :dunno:
Hey, with "sports" cars weighing nearly 4000lbs these days, 5150 isn't much more? I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Yeah I don't see how anyone could take this out to the track, unless they owned the track. Or maybe if they were doing one of those racetrack country club deals.
Then again, I remember having a Lightning in my group back in the day once.
