Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - G.Irish - 02-20-2013 Audi is now coming out with a RS Q3, and the rumor is that BMW will be dropping a X3 M soon too. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/02/20/2014 ... va-reveal/ I used to think these super fast SUV's were stupid but now I've kind of warmed up to the idea. I need a support vehicle of some sort and I don't think I'd be opposed to having something that can tow that is fast. All of these super SUV's are too expensive (X5 M, X6 M, Cayenne) but maybe I'd go with one used. Still, in the back of my mind they're stupid, if I had the parking spaces a better solution would be a big sketchy van to transport bikes, and a proper sports car in the garage. Thoughts? Would you buy one of these? Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - Apoc - 02-20-2013 SUV? Ban them. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - WRXtranceformed - 02-20-2013 The only fast SUV I think is really cool is the Jeep SRT8. And I am not really sure why. SUVs get bad enough gas mileage, I don't think I could live with one that averages like 10mpg. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - WRXtranceformed - 02-20-2013 I will concede to that sir Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-20-2013 What is realllly funny is the Sport SUVs typically have much lower tow ratings than their equivalents. I think they are great though. Most likely when I have a family/kids, ill be downsizing the racing, and the ability to have a fun car that can fit the kids, a car that the wife wants (most ex-gfs loved smaller suvs), and be able to tow an open trailer with a race car has a huge appeal. For many years, that was the tahoe/yukon/explorer/expedition forte. They then got bad repuations/didnt move with the times, and the new "sport suv" I think has taken on more of that role. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - Apoc - 02-20-2013 If DJ likes them, they should def be banned. Blasphemy. Full racing rig > Kids/family.   Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - premiershine9 - 02-20-2013 Love em- driven enough to put smiles on my face and make me want one some day. Notable mom haulers I enjoyed driving= X5M and a Cayenne Turbo S....... I likey big SUVs! Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - V1GiLaNtE - 02-20-2013 XJ or bust.. But seriously I hate em. Especially that new BMW X6 or whatever. Thing looks like a turd. I see them as mostly impractical and more of a fashion statement than anything. Very few people by them because of their "SUV capabilities" (granted neither do most people purchasing an SUV) . You're not going to see a Cayenne out on the beaches at Corolla/Duck or an X5 loaded with camping gear headed to the mountains. There are exceptions but for the most part just buy one or the other. Fast car or practical vehicle. Or one of each. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - ScottyB - 02-20-2013 i'm not sure what they bring to the table that a regular wagon doesn't already. they don't really tow and without low range, you're not going through any off-road situation a car with reasonable ride height can't handle...and if you are, frequently, than wtf are you doing in one of these things anyway? for most buyers, its really 80% image, 20% function over a car equivalent because they look more butch and give a commanding view of the road that appeals to egos. dealing with all the top heavy, high aero profile, high consumable crap of an actual SUV without the nimble efficiency and true performance of a car seems counterproductive to me. the 'phoon works because its focused almost completely on performance and is basically a giant middle finger to sports cars - it doesn't take itself seriously which means we don't have to either, and that's endearing. same with the lightning, except its actually functional as a towing rig as well. i can even give a pass to the AMG g-wagons, because they still kick-ass offroad. but these things...they're just another knife in the back of once-great internal tuning divisions. M doesn't mean anything anymore, and RS is going the same way. profits can do that i guess. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - Evan - 02-20-2013 I used to hate them, but since wagon's arent 'cool' anymore for idiot americans, those of us with offspring and/or canines and need the hatch space have to make do with raised, butched up wagons that are called SUVs or "crossovers" since I dont have any other options, I have to shop SUV/crossovers, so a sporty SUV with less shitty handling is better than a soft soccermom soul-sucker. the "crazy hp" part of the sport SUV equation doesnt make much sense to me, but neither do any sort of daily drivers with more than 300hp, but thats just me. Seems like cock extension and flaunting just like every other M/AMG/RS/BBQ/WTF/LOL edition. Im not spending that crazy money so obviously Im not their intended market anyway. ps- If mazda announces a mazdaspeed 6 wagon IN THE US I swear to you I will ejaculate on the spot Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - G.Irish - 02-20-2013 Some of the sport SUV's can actually tow a decent amount. SRT8: 5000 lbs Cayenne Turbo (and Diesel): 7716 lbs X5 M: 6000 lbs Clearly you could get something way cheaper that can tow way more but they're not totally useless as tow vehicles. The only one that I think that is kind of cool (aside from the Typhoon... duh) is the SRT8. Unfortunately, it's a pile of shit. Assholes in SUVs don't also need the ability to go ROCKETSHIP FAST. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - .RJ - 02-20-2013 I want a motherfucking M5 wagon. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - premiershine9 - 02-20-2013 .RJ Wrote:I want a motherfucking M5 wagon. Yes. Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - V1GiLaNtE - 02-21-2013 The States needs more wagons... I <3 wagons so much. ETA: As much blasphemy as it sounds I still have a soft spot for those 2002-2004 Passat Wagons.. I'd kick myself for buying on knowing the troubles but dammit if that wasn't one of the smoothest/practical vehicles I've driven. (Even more impractical with that confounded engine but ooooo baby..) W8 Wagon. 4motion and 6spd.
