Ho hum.... Where do I begin?
Picked up a Bad Ass Tomken Swing out rear bumper for teh ol XJ on Friday for $170. Included little did I know where some decent KC lights the guy had spliced into the back up lights but more on that later..
So here's I how go it when I made it to school..
Oh yea it's Tomken..
So it had some skin cancer but nothing to scary.. About the best I could do was put a wire wheel to my drill and attack attack attack.. Personal choice I would like to take it down to bare metal but I was limited by time and tools.. and my impatience to put it on..
After cleaning it all up I hit it with a couple of coats of Rustoleum spray on truck bed liner stuff. Came out really good IMO.
At this point I had been working with it for about 3 hours between skin cancer, prep, and paint and had some daylight still so off came the rear.. It's not terrible to do. I've had worse things on cars to take off
NOW THE FUN PART STARTS
The XJ this came off of was a 95.. Mines a 98' which apparently Chrysler actually changed something between these years other than cosmetics items.. All the mounting holes are the same but I guess before 98' the mounting holes were not recessed back under the lip where the trunk area was.. I was a little upset because I wanted this bumper so bad and did not want to part with it because of about 2 inches of steel on either side of the mounting brackets preventing it from mounting up... what to do what to do?
CUT THAT ISH YO!!

Friend of mine made a call to a friend whom I'm friends/acquaintances with and headed over his dad's garage.. This is not a business this was his personal garage... The guy builds/restores muscle cars for hobby. Two bays, two post lift, you name it the guy had it..
Couple of more pesky things needed to be removed in order to fully mount the bumper.
Before had picked up all brand new Grade 8 Hardware to make sure this thing wasn't going to move... and It doesn't..
Couple of mock ups but I still hadn't bought any hardware yet to actually mount the tire to the swing out.. Night shots Immediately after install..
Got home after all this at about midnight.. Hell I still wanted to work on my truck.. I didn't like the gap between the bumper and where the truck area was because you could see all the rough frame and such.. So in the back of my jeep with my flashlight mocked up and cut the original piece and slid it in.. It fits but I need to fine tune it so the it will stay flush the entire length of the bumper..
Pretty picture time.. Grabbed the last of the hardware I needed and got the spare all mounted up this morning. Shit looks Badass.. And will look better when I order my lift within the next week..
Had to mount the license plate on the bumper cause can't see it with the tire on. My small issues I need to fix are the small gap filler I modified, find some end bumper caps in the junkyard so I can clean up the sides.. The original end caps don't fit and not having them on there bugs me cause it kills the "lines".. Oh and buy a D-Ring receiver for the hitch..
As for the lights I need to fix one of the them the trim around light is cracked but can probably be filled and fixed. I'm going to spray the housing with the same Truck liner stuff. I'm going to space them on either side of the 2" receiver and mount them up to there with a switch in the cab. That way I can use the lights anyway I feel the need for. I think they will be really handy to have..
Anyways that's all folks!
Unrelated note for those who have worked on their cars here, partied at, or just socialized here in general.. Those were all the best of times and I got everything and more I ever wanted out of living in a house in College. Was a sad day to lock the door to my empty house of 2 years for the last time and drive home..
