Oh, I've worked on my diet the last couple years as well. This is all muscle growth that's sending me out of slim-fit stuff.

I don't consume much sugar, keep carbs to a minimum, and generally eat leaner meats. Not much fried or processed food either. I've got more energy, stand taller, sleep better, etc as a result.

Got off the good eating train about a year ago, and man.....I can tell a real difference in how I feel beyond how I look.  Being a girl doesn't help the situation either.  But I've been trying to take a much harder look at what I'm consuming and that is starting to help. I also decided to add running back into my routine consistently.  Yesterday was the first day I had run 3 miles in at least 6 months.  Woke up this morning ready to hit the gym (with more running programmed Sick ). But definitely over all motivated to get my head out of my ass and start making the changes I need to, in order to attain my goals.  I'm glad this thread popped back up cause I needed the boost!

Nothing fancy just a few years old updated 29er, but with gears and a solo air fork up front. I'm happy.

Man I gotta start riding more.  It's been raining every week here for the past 5 months so all the trails have been consistently closed.  I bought a bike thinking I would do a lot and it just sits sadly.  Really excited to hammer on it this spring/summer once the trails are open.  I got suckered into a nice bike since RJ kept telling me everything was crap but the cream of the crop lol.

Especially where you are now - they have a great trail network over around the State Park.  I brought my bike down a couple years ago and spent two days riding the network over there; it was awesome!  If I make it down again this summer I will hit you up...  assuming you got a MTB?

Yeah! Definitely hit me up, I am all of about 6-8 minutes from Lake Norman State Park and have a guest bedroom if you need a place to spot.

lol, I told you not to spend that much on a bike but noooo you had to have fancy thing Big Grin

I rode outdoors on Sunday for the first time since Thanksgiving. I'd been relegated to the trainer indoors after surgery, and I've got the all clear to do whatever I want. Limiting exercise time and winter makes me fat...

You told me everything was crap when I tried to cheap out!  I went in to the Trek store to check in on my back-ordered bike and got told the bike I wanted was being discontinued  (after waiting 3 months for it); and got sold into a bike 2.5x as much :/  Yo but I got deal  Rolleyes Oh yeah, also got a call 6 weeks later saying the bike I back-ordered was available. hnggggg.. The Fuel series has been a bike I have lusted over ever since I first saw it years ago at SBC in Harrisonburg.

Don't feel bad DJ, the trails in RVA have been shit with all the rain as well. More annoyingly it's usually pretty clear all week and then boom it rains on the weekend and blows that plan all to hell!

For any of you other MTB'ers or road bikers for that matter Ryan and I live basically next to the Capital trail which provides miles of road riding and easy access to all of the James River Park System (Buttermilk, North Bank trail, Forest hill park, etc.) if anyone wants a weekend of gears and beers.

I'm with you girl! Smile. Had a good summer, lost about 20 from Easter to mid September or so but have slowly but surely allowed about 8 to creep back. The worst part is that over that time I could have lost another 20 instead but excuses.

I recently got my workout space back now that the daughter and grandson moved out and have started back with some lifting and running. I'm hesitant to squat for now though, I strained my back skiing, or really trying to over stretch after the first day out, and it just feels...different. In my head that means fragile and I don't have the training or flexibility to have good form. Also doing a better job of tracking and weighing food, since I start to get a bit heavy handed eyeballing things after a while.

I think I've lost about 1000 pounds in my lifetime, it's just been the same damn 20 pounds about 50 times.

Also, well done Rex - I think I'd be afraid 500# would just crush me let alone being able to push it back up...

Jake, I'm curious why you hate gyms. I really don't enjoy going to my gym at home (LA Fitness) due to the lack of machines/weights, lack of space, interesting clientele, and people who aren't my age.

Being at UREC I could not be happier, I truly think investing in a gym you enjoy should not be overlooked. I know LA is about $30 a month and a gym like UREC would be closer to $100 so it's obviously something that needs to be budgeted. Regardless, a different gym can make a world of a difference, and be what actually motivates you to go every day!

I'm not motivated to just go by myself and execute a routine. Having a class that I've committed to, with an instructor to motivate and coach, does a LOT to get me in gear. It's cheaper to have a gym membership compared to these classes, but I've enjoyed the classes and seen a lot of progress, so it's worth doing. Kind of a "small group personal trainer" sort of vibe, if you will. Spin classes tend to have ~20-30 people and Solidcore is a max of 11.

Look into Classpass when you are home this summer, if you don't love LA Fitness. It's a neat concept and you can work out all over the place.

Have recently taken a step back from working on the car a lot and focused on my health. I've been running few miles a week in compliance with my knees and back and have been doing intermittent fasting and a calorie restricted diet. I've shied away from heavy lifting as often as I used to as well in favor of running. I got a nice pair of cushioned, fitted running shoes for my birthday and this has played a positive role as well. I definitely feel a lot better most of the time (except always being hungry) and it's helped my back pain a bit.

I play kickball and softball almost year round and this is the best I've felt when playing. I feel a lot less injury prone as well.

Have you considered biking instead of running to save your back and knees? I had to do that for my knees as they couldn't handle longer than a 3-4 mile run without me regretting my decision.

New shoes go a long way in preventing injury and easing pain. Shoes should be used for a couple hundred miles and maybe 3 years. Frequent runners should get one every 6 months.
