"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

No - a tower of babble is when he quotes an article, i quote a counter article, he quotes a paper, i quote a counter paper, rinse repeat nobody wins, and the forum is now full of shit posts. It's a dumb exercise. You guys can quit the condescending tone any time now. I went to the same school as you, and I too studied topics of interest.

Quote:Lessening of what regulation? Or is that just another generic Trump guarantee? Those departments, specifically EPA, do a lot of good unless you're a believer that climate change is not real.

EPA is involved in a lot more areas than just climate change. Why do you want to trust an unelected government bureaucrat to make decisions that have a real effect on you? I've worked with some of these people. You don't. For example, why does the DOI own and control 30% of the land in the country? When you go out west, it is a big deal. Instead of having Farmers being able to purchase the land, graze their animals on it, seed it, or whatever they want, the Government is getting to decide how the land gets used. This can be for any number of reasons - economic, environmental, whatever. We all live in coastal bubbles where it's easy to overlook all of the regulation that is out there.

Quote:What the shit is assimilation based immigration? Like, you'll try and guarantee that immigrants assimilate to "American Culture," if so, what the hell is, "American Culture"?

Yeah sure - ensuring that immigrants don't come to this country and become isolated. How about before having mass immigration, or becoming some kind of open border society, lets make sure we have jobs lined up for the ones we let in. Lets make sure they have community support. I'll trust them to pick it up on their own, but it doesn't work if they self segregate.

"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.
Highlighted the operative word.

Quote:In no way would charter schools help, especially in the "inner cities" you mention. These schools have a hard enough time getting funding, and you want to split that out even more?

My fiance's sister who spent years teaching in derelict inner city public schools and charter schools disagrees. Since you can just say things, I'll give you anecdotes.

Quote:Term limits - Cool, agree there. Good luck getting that to pass though, don't care who you are.

Right - so lets vote for the entrenched establishment who doesn't even see a problem with the current setup.

Quote:Simplification of tax code - I mean, okay? Going to be pain in the ass no matter how you break it down - not like it's ever going to be a straight forward you only owe us x%. There are far too many different circumstances for that to ever be a reality.
The only reason there are "different circumstances" is because of all of the lobbying and special interest concessions that have been put in the tax code over the years. Are you advocating that it's fair and correct as is?

Quote:Lowering the repatriation tax - This is not even proven to do anything positive for the economy. Not like they are forced to use the money to make new hires.

There are other benefits besides making new hires. How about the profits that companies that most of us are certainly invested in being able to pay dividends to their shareholders - but can't or won't because of a %35 tax on bringing the money home?

Quote:Lowering taxes for the middle class - As i stated earlier, after analysis his plan would, at best, save a marginal amount to current. While lowering taxes for rich and awaiting the much heralded but seldom seen, "trickle down."

You say marginal, The Tax Foundation calculator: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://taxfoundation.org/blog/how-would-trump-and-clinton-tax-plans-affect-your-taxes">http://taxfoundation.org/blog/how-would ... your-taxes</a><!-- m --> says that I'd save almost $5000

Quote:Reinforcement of a military depleted by 15 years of war - We spend an obnoxious amount of money on military. We don't need to spend less and we certainly don't need to spend more. We need to spend it wisely (i.e. not trying to simultaneously designed and build large projects such as ships, plans etc.) -
ok, fair enough. Let's spend it wisely. I think Trump is less likely to bend to the whims of whatever friend senators (he has none) have major projects in their state to keep some pet project alive.
Quote:The last few you mentioned are purely personal/religious preferences. Some people are convinced that the government are going to come for their guns if they register them, some aren't.

-Yep

Thanks for that tax calculator. For me it's the opposite... H dawg is gonna send $400 more my way than Trump. I guess procreating has its rewards and I'm not rich enough for Trump to think I'm a great, swell guy.

Edit... if I make another million a year, Trump seems to love me $53000 more than Hillary. Gives me something to shoot for.

I have no idea your situation, but I played with a lot of numbers there, and it was hard to make it so that Trump cost less than Clinton. Are you sure you were reading it right (or maybe I wasn't)?

100% sure. Married, 2 kids under 5, my wife stays home to watch the kids. It's hard to make that situation work for Trump.

I'm in the same boat as you. According to that calculator, Trump would be sending about ~$3600 more my way.

According to that calculator and estimating what my deductions were without digging up my tax return, I'd save about $2000 under Trump and owe nothing more under Clinton

Unfortunately the prevelance of Facebook and other social media is making the need for forums much less. It's really hard to convince new people to even make an account.

I just don't get why you youngins prefer to have several conversations at once where you have to keep scrolling back up in a tiny FB chat window vs. planning your events and showing off your cars here where it's more organized.

I'm not a total luddite, I get the benefit of being able to make everyone's pocket vibrate at the same time for putting together impromptu stuff, I just don't get why the existence of FB chat turns y'all off the forum completely. :dunno:

Because no one sits down to click through a million threads and keep up with people they don't know. It's definitely easier to scroll up and read the 50 missed messages all in one place. Again, no one knows you all. I think that's the biggest factor.

Despite how many of us are active in the group chat there's a bunch more that send 1 message a semester.

Edit: and I'm not a forum person either really. MM is only forum I'm on. I follow and read a bunch of Mazda and BMW ones but I don't participate and have no desire to
