So in preparation of my Exploder injectors arriving (please be before the weekend! *crosses fingers*) I decided to remove my fuel rail.
3 bolts, 3 screws, two QD fuel line fittings, 6 injector plugs and the bitch was out. There was NO pressure at the fuel line schrader valve, not that that's any surprise. However, there was fuel in the rail, so I put a little plastic cup underneath the rail where I laid it, to catch the excess...
...because I am a dumbass. Anyway, good news, we'll see if my floor holds up to gasoline and engine degreaser, because I had to clean up all the gasoline that was piddled on the floor, lol.
Anyway, took me about a half hour start to finish, and the hardest part was getting those thrice-damned injector harness clips off the injector plugs. I only lost one, the first one, before I devised a method to have them not fly across the garage. Fuckin' deutchlanders.
Anyway, this is what it looks like with no injectors:
The offending injector:
See how one is all dry and the other is soaking wet? Now, I can't really even tell if the injector is cracked or if the o-rings are bad, but either way it is just as much effort to replace 12 o-rings as it is to replace 12 o-rings and 6 injectors. Since my new injectors are slightly bigger AND have are 4 hole vs single hole. And more is better:
It all went pretty well, I'm hoping the install goes equally easy. I bought a fuel line QD tool, turns out I didn't need it. It'll probably be useful anyway, however, on some future project, so I might as well keep it. However, I did break something:
![[Image: IMG_0528.jpg]](http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g271/MMRex/ReXJ/IMG_0528.jpg)
This vacuum hose was disconnected, but the plastic has broken off inside it...and I don't know where it went! It leads from the map sensor on the firewall and goes...? I mean obviously to the throttle body, but I can't find the "broken" nipple bit.
Anyway, here's hoping my new injectors come before the weekend. I'm sure julie is getting tired of getting up at 0dark30 to take my ass to work.

Will you need any kind of ECU adjustment for the new injectors? Looks like a messy project

That looks line just a vacuum connector not a broken nipple. At least in the pics. Is you jeep renix or mopar efi? I could have sworn it was renix and I don't remember if the injector swap was right for the older ones or just the newer ones. Is that the only line going to the map or is it teed off? Also if Ty need an injector clip I think I have a few.

It's Renix, and it may just be the connector but it definitely looks "broken" on the end. It is the only line going to the MAP, and from what brief internets search I've done, there should be a port on the throttlebody. There is a rubbery, plastic-y "grommet" (for lack of a better word) on the "inside" (facing the motor) surface...this could be where it goes, as the bottom hole seems "almost" the size of the little plastic nipple. I may need to replace that whole grommet-y thing? Apparently that's the vacuum port for the thing, but if I've broken off part of the plastic connector I need to figure that out, I guess, before I proceed...I'd really rather not be taking my throttle body apart but if that's what it takes...
And I don't think there's going to be any need for ECU adjustment. The stock injectors are 18.6 lbs/hr, my "new" injectors are 19 lbs/hr. It may run a little rich, but apparently the Renix system is a learning one, that actually listens to the knock sensors and adjusts accordingly. If it is too bad, then modifying the map sensor is apparently fairly straightforward to allow for adjust-ability of the MAP to add/remove fuel. Obviously not something I'd want to do on, say, a turbocharged car, but for an N/A truck motor if I need to trim the fuel, it'll be easy.

Pretty sure this is where it came from:
It just looks like the plastic connector was broken. I'll need to take a better look at it.

Oh yeah I would say that looks about right. I would try to screw a large drywall or #8 screw into it and pull it out.

Well, I have considered removing that grommet to 'fish out' the broken vacuum connector to replace it, but maybe a screw is a better option. I wonder if that grommet available for purchase? Probably comes with a throttle body. :finger:

That is a big negatory big ben. I checked and it is not seperate from the T-body. They list the line (it must be plastic pre-formed?) but not the gasket.

I just wanted to maybe have a spare before I removed the grommet to replace the plastic connector. (Probably with a metal one.)
There was some chatter about tapping that hole and screwing in a brass nipple fitting. Also some chatter about eliminating it altogether and getting a feed from the intake manifold proper. We'll see.

I don't know why it would be any different unless that plastic/rubber thing has some sort of orifice restriction in it. I can't imagine it would.

That vac source vs. manifold.

Looking forward to hear how the injector upgrade goes.. I was always curious about dropping in the neon injectors or the 19# mustang ones I believe you're going with Rex... Curious to see if there's any improvement overall..(of course you'll see improvement because of said shitball inj #3..)
Remeber you have a completely different efi system on yours.

Yeah, you'd need larger than 19#...26# I think?
Little update. Still no injectors. I'm really really hoping they come tomorrow, because I'm sure julie is tired of taking me to work at buttfuck o'clock. I pulled out the rubber grommett thing on the side of the TB, and there was plenty of plastic "inside" to use for the vac hose. Might just need to do a little black RTV on it to keep it nice and sealed. However, I bought some plastic line that appeared to be very similar in size, I may replace the plastic tube with some plastic line. If I have to do this again down the road though, it's getting tapped and having a nipple fitted.
Also, and this is a good note for you current students, if you need some weird shit, hit up a Fisher/Federated Auto Parts. They have a warehouse in Staunton, so they can get anything you want next day AND they have some weird shit. I went to get new o-rings, and not only did she have them in stock, she had enough for all 6 injectors and still had some left over. They were like $1.50 each pair, and she didn't give me a single crosseyed look. AAP and Vatozone both were like "Yeah, we can't get that...you can buy this O-Ring assortment pack (for 9 feckin' dollars) that might have the right size."
Fuckers.
Anyway, I'm going to pull the injectors off the rail and blow some carb cleaner up in each port, maybe give it a little scrub. Can't hurt, right? I'm just sitting here with my dick in my hand until Mr. PostMan decides to deliver my squirters.

We got ~6" at my house. Ive been having issues with the battery in my jeep lately, and the hood latch wasnt working to hold the hood down. I WD-40 everything underneath and finally got it moving again, and then the damn hood latch handle pulled off the cable. Ended up just cutting hte cable under the dash and putting some vice grips on it to operate the cable. tldr; my jeep needed like an hour of screwing with to get out in the snow Saturday
