Crazy! A train derailed just up the street here a few years ago and after they cleared the tracks they just left the cars there. I guess it was too expensive / too much trouble to remove them so they just left them there...kind of eerie

pretty crazy. the physics of how those things even stay on the tracks always amazes me to begin with.

i've heard of that...the time/effort/equipment to get a rail crane out there just isn't worth the scrap sometimes, especially on a busy line

If I were doing 106 in a 50 in a car and did that much damage, I would be in jail for a long time, no establishing intent required. I guess I'll keep that "sorry officer, I lost situational awareness" argument in my back pocket. :dunno:
