Getting my hair cut this morning, the stylist and I always talk about how thick my hair is (I personally hate it, but apparently it's a good thing). She says a lot of men obviously have badly thinning hair but she's seeing it more and more already with middle and high school boys having receding hair lines. She said she's really only noticed it within the last few years and think it could be partly diet related. It wouldn't surprise me really that all the hormones and junk in food now are causing aging symptoms at a younger age.
But I mean that was coming from a hair dresser not a nutritional scientist, so I dunno. It sounds legit though.

I was just combing my hair this morning and annoyed with it's thinness, the spot growing in the back and the fact I hate to pay to maintain to look half way decent. I'm shaving it all off tonight. Hair is annoying.

Hair people are full of shit. Had some lady tell me that my "fine" hair (fine as in, light, delicate, wispy) was "caused" by Suave instead of whatever Redkin $30/bottle bullshit she had for sale.
Now, as far as male baldness goes, it's a dance of genetics and hormones. Make sure you have the second under observation as you enter mid-late 30's, the first one is just shit luck. Get some rogaine, or learn to love the Yul Brenner look.
Enough of that bullshit, getting old sucks, but you can control the level of suck. I did a 3 plate clean: https://www.instagram.com/p/BX6bykohurZ9...GsnEizcE0/

true story.
case in point, and not to be a "my dad can beat up your dad" kind of jackass, but just as an example: my dad is 63. he was pretty athletic in his younger years but has dutifully stayed committed his physique. up at 5AM doing P90x, goes on walks every day, gets into all kinds of remodeling projects. he's jacked and its inspirational as hell to me. of course at some point he'll have to hang the gloves up and tone it way down, but until then, he doesn't let a number on his birthday card hold him back.

My dad is the same way (and same age, even). We're running a 15 mile Spartan Race this Saturday and that's the third one this year. He's not "jacked" but he's in way better shape than most guys his age. Motivation to eat right and keep moving, for sure.

I would like to subscribe to your program. I already own the equipment, along with a bunch of other stuff I use in my basement.
You...aren't in the 'burg? I mean, if you're serious IM me.
Copy/paste over here dawg.
I need to start paying more attention. Since I was a teenager I was 182-185lbs. Late college years I snuck up to 190. Left college and no shit dropped to 177 (god drinking is bad for you).
I stayed around 180-183 for years after that until right around the time we got married. I hit 190-192 during our honeymoon. Having Jess make our meals has helped (back down to 180-182) but I struggle with portion control. The work Cabell does blows my mind, and I don't think I'll ever get there.

Start small? Pretty easy to pick up a kitchen scale and weigh your food out. Start with dinner and eat the recommended portion size. Go from there. A lot of the other stuff is general good eating habits (no sugary things, processed foods, soda, etc.) Maybe I'm blessed in that I don't have a sweet tooth. They just don't do it for me. :dunno:

I haven't drank soda in over a decade (aside from mixed drinks). Water and milk in our house. I would looooove to get rid of my sweet tooth for chocolate and desserts and am slowly weening down.
I just don't think I have the patience to do the weigh in, I think it's great that you do. I am incredibly active normally but need a good workout routine instead of running and lifting car parts.

Ok, fine. It's difficult to have a "one size fits all" workout, which is why reading stuff in GQ or whatever is so awful. BUT, here's *my* prison/vacation/beach/apartment workout:
Needed:
Kettlebell (moderate weight. 50# for men, 25 or 35# for ladies)
Jump Rope
Schedule 2 days on, 1 off
Day 1:
Warm-up. Emphasize wrists, forearms, hips. Dynamic stretches.
5 Rounds:
60 seconds max effort jump rope
25 Kettlebell Swings (Russian, don't do "american" swings) -Note: If this is too easy, do one-handed and alternate
25 " Goblet Squats" -If this is too easy, do overhead squats.
Rest 30 seconds between each round.
Rest:
3x10 Turkish Getups, each side.
3x10 situps/crunches/dragonflags/hollowrocks AKA CORE: DO SOME
3x10 Pistol squats (5 each leg, unweighted. if you can't do a pistol you're in the majority of western humans, google the progression movements and do those)
3x10 Curls (for da ladiiiiiiiiiiies awww yeah, y'all gotcher tickets to the gunnnnshooowww?)
Day 2:
Warmup. Emphasize shoulders.
10 rounds:
10 burpees (chest to deck, arms off floor)
10 Clean & Press (alternate arms) -if this is too easy, get a heavier gd bell
Rest, then:
3x10 overhead lunge (5 each arm/leg)
3x10 pushups (chest to deck, slow negative, explosive push, tuck your elbows do them right)
3x10 Windmills each side
3x10 1-leg kettlbell deadlift.
this is what I do, I am not a kinesiologist or personal trainer or anything like that, I'm just a guy who can pick up heavy shit. This might be super boring to you, but it's something you can do anywhere, any time, with equipment you can bring with you. you don't even need shoes (and probably shouldn't have them) for anything but the jumprope. It's a simple workout. The first half should be done as fast & furious as you can do while maintaining good form. If you aren't breathing hard, you've either got too light a kettlebell or too much lead in your ass. For the second half, take your time, emphasize perfect form, maintaining core tightness, mastering the movement.
There. It's not perfect, it certainly isnt' the best for any given person but it's a good start, and with just a nice jumprope and a medium weight kettlbell you can definitely get stronger and shed some inches. It's an easy "base" for modification, and you can add anything you like as you go on.

Important addendum:
IF YOU EAT LIKE SHIT YOU WILL GET FAT.
No way around it. Food is fuel, fuel your body don't "feed" it. Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and sugar.

Kettlebells won't get you a quarter ton squat though.
