So currently this thing is the bain of my existence. The Reservoir came in. Couldn't easily get the old one off and ended up destroying it. Tried to put the new one on and it broke.. Sunovabeotch. Broke down and ended up just buying a whole new PS pump w/ reservoir. Rented the pulley puller and proceeded to spend an hour in the parts store trying to get it off the old pump. Destroyed the pulley. Placed an order last night and the new pulley will be here today. The installer/puller at advance BLOWS. Just like any Jeep when it rains it pours. What was supposed to be a $20 job to replace a hose I've now spent ~$150 and pretty much replaced the entire steering assembly sans the gearbox.. *Le sigh*

Poor girl looks like a weekend project jeep now.. Carpet is pulled up and interior pieces spread everywhere to dry up and fix the water leak. Electric fan, airbox, and new PS pump sitting in the cargo area.. and various tools, nuts, and bolts sitting in the engine bay with the hood popped.. Praying to the Jeep gods I fix her this evening and get to go for a drive.

Where we were last night..

I just changed out the whole pump on my jeep, 6-7 months ago. Installing the whole unit wasnt nearly as bad.

The pulleys aren't metal they are some sort of polymer, and the reservoir is super birttle due to the heat the engine puts off. So you are just better off installing the unit as a whole, and returning the pump for the core charge.

Yea.. It's 3 bolts holding the whole thing in. I should have just made that realization before I ordered a separate reservoir (especially since the cost between the two was so close :fingerSmile. Regardless, I need to pickup the pulley this evening, install onto new PS Pump and return my old one for the core charge. After that I can pretty much button this thing up blindfolded and drunk.

Make sure you have access to a vice or a press to get that pulley on, I tried to get it on with a hammer and a block of wood, and no bueno. Had to use a vice.

What method did you use with a vice? I was going to break down and purchase the actual tool. Apparently the one they sell in the store is the tits compared to the shitass tool they rent. Do it right the first time so I don't end up spending more money and wasting more time..

Line up the pulley and tap it on with a hammer.

Then place pump in vice and slowly tighten the vice pressing on the new pulley.

Pretty sure my vice doesn't open up that wide.. I'll just bite the bullet and pay the $30 for the actual tool. Somebody will need to borrow it in the future when the next wave of MM'ers graduate and make the painful pilgrimage to NOVA without any real tools... :bootyshake:

Try putting the pulley on top of a space heater prior to putting it on... Usually helps them slide right on.

I broke down and bought the actual OEM tool from Autozone. Made life a breeze. Jeep is up and running. Just in time to cruise the winter mix we had.

Aside from the rocker panel I also found the Harbor Freight cargo net I bought that fits that roof rack pretty well, when I was cleaning out the jeep. Yours if you want it.
