Anyone else do Tough Mudder last weekend?

Your best bet is to get fit for shoes at a running store. I've been partial to ~$100 asics, but thats what works for me. Potomac River Running is pretty good.

I got a pair of the NB Minimus's... I really really like them.. Super light weight and eventually form to your feet really well..I have another pair of NB 573's which are trail running shoes.. After running in the Minimus's the 573's feel like a pair of bricks on your feet..

I will stop by them sometime this week. Not worth the pain not to get soemthing done right.

This sounds like a better idea as I hate running.

Yep, they'll look at your feet, posture, see how you run and then put you in a couple of shoes. Running hurts enough without ill-fitting shoes.

I took up running again last fall, was doing 1-2 runs a week and then fell off the wagon to maybe 1-2 a month - but since breaking my collarbone I've been running quite a bit, and I'm up to a 90-100 min run once a week without too much suffering.

Honestly I don't think you'd have a problem with it. You mountain bike and are probably starting out at a much better base level of cardio fitness than I had when I started training for this. And really, I only ran consistently for the last 6 weeks before the event. With 7 months before the DC event you could definitely do it.

warrior dash seems like it would be a more laid back atmosphere as well, since the distance is less. might be more enjoyable as a first event. half the people i ran with had costumes and stuff on, it was a pretty good laugh.

if all were right within the Temple of Evan I would agree with you, but I have knee and back injuries that really affect running and even walking so I need to ease into it and train right to make sure i dont overreach and set myself back a month or 2 (Which was the story of my whole summer)

Tough Mudder was definitely fun but it was considerably more exhausting then I was anticipating. We ran on saturday at 12 with some great weather. It took me just about this whole last week to fully recover from being so damn sore in my legs. Hiking up several ski slopes was the most difficult portion, the obstacles weren't terribly challenging but were a lot of fun besides the ice bath (that just sucked). I got pretty scraped up and bruised from several of the obstacles. The running portions were fine besides being cold and wet which led to the nice cough I still have. Gerald was right about the slip and slide, I made it through fine but the person behind me went in way too fast and just about wiped out my knee (that was unpleasant).

Overall it was a great experience and quite challenging to finish with pushing the pace. There were a few lines at the more challenging obstacles but for the most part the entire race went smoothly. They had plenty of water stations with banannas to help replenish along the course, I think I drank 4 bottles of water throughout the course and still felt dehydrated. There were definitely a lot of runners cramping up and I witnessed several injuries on the larger, more physical obstacles. I plan on running another one but probably won't do the Winteergren one again. I was planning on doing the Tampa one next year but If you guys are serious about the DC race I will plan on doing that one with you guys instead.
