I'd like a sedan, and the GTS4 gives me Turbo + AWD.
If I didn't want a sedan or AWD then yea, 240 > GTS

my bad, i only read GTS and not GTS4. in that case i totally get why you'd want it for the AWD.

Quote:'89 Toyota Dyna Japanese Firetruck-Rare 4 Door Doublecab (Crewcab)-2 Wheel Drive but looks like a 4 X 4-low mileage has just over 25,800 miles (43,000 kms) , this particular Truck can also make you some extra money it has been in 2 movies already filmed here, the last one seen in the New 'Godzilla' Movie. The Truck has been in storage for awhile it's a pretty clean Truck which drives great , 5 speed Manual Transmission with a 1.8 lt. Gas Engine,it has a recently installed Oz Tray Aluminum Flatdeck with Sides and Back which are removable, these are common Decks that you see in Australia-very functional so you can have a Pick-Up or take off the sides and back and you have a Flatdeck, one of the pictures shows it as a Flatdeck without the Headache Rack but I had one Custom made you can see it in another picture-pretty handy.I also have the Service Box that was mounted on the Truck originally,I also have fairly New LED Lights that were mounted on the Service Box which I haven't had time to install on the Aluminum Oz Tray but there is a 3 Light LED Light Bar mounted on the Headache Rack not shown in the Pictures. The Dyna also has a Rockford Fosgate/Infinity Sound System,I have a Custom Made Sub Box for the Truck but has never been installed, set up for a single 10 or 12 inch Sub,Hella 4 Headlight Halogen Conversion with GE Nighthawk Bulbs,Custom Larger Walker Performance Exhaust System including Cat.,Factory Amber Fog Lights,Yokohama All Terrain Tires mounted on New Toyota Rims when the Truck had 4,200 miles (7,300 kms) on it . The Truck also has a Custom Aluminum Headache Rack and also has a removable Aluminum Rear Rack if you want to carry long lengths of Lumber or Pipe. The Back Seat will fit up to 3 people and also folds up out of the way if you want to carry Cargo in the back. The Dyna also has a neat feature the Shifter Handle can fold down flat so you can slide across the seat if you are parked in a tight spot on the Passenger side-slick.All of the Emergency Equipment can be made operational including the 2 Sirens and all of the Flashing Lights,it also has a PA System with the Electronic Siren. This is a nice little Truck,if you're looking for a Cool Little Truck this is a pretty neat ride lots of people stop you all the time to ask you about it usually when you're Fueling up or grabbing a Burger-ask my Wife everybody wants to talk to you,Kids from the Daycares stop all the time & grown Adults too.I also have the Original Toyota Owner's Manual. Selling for $9,000 with the 2 Service Boxes . Note:the Full Thule Professional Rack mounted on the Service Box does not come with the Box it has been removed. The Vehicle is stored at the moment about 8 miles North of the Sumas Border Crossing. This is a Nice Truck! ... come have a look at it if your looking for a unique ride and it's Rare you don't see many of these Trucks even up where we are, this could be your calling card for your Business-Great for Advertising!

Someone tell me why this is a horrible, terrible, very bad idea, cause I feel like I could get it for like 4k or less:

I could give two shits about the top, it'll stay in the garage and be a weekend fun/tinkering car. Buy new seat covers and replace the current ones, polish up the paint, wet sand and polish the headlights and have a decent little cruiser? Even do that and replace the top and try to sell it for 8k? Are these just total pieces of shit or what's the deal here?

kind of, mostly the non-S ones, and especially the early ones (pre-00). i want one of these too...done a lot of research on them over the last few years. bottom line is the older you go back in the boxster line the riskier they are.
Intermediate Shaft (IMS) bearing likes to fail and takess out the engine. its a crap bearing design from the early days of Porsche contracting Toyota to show them how to mass produce watercooled stuff cheaply for the next gen cars.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://boxsterguide.blogspot.com/2010/09/intermediate-shaft-ims-bearing-info-and.html">http://boxsterguide.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... o-and.html</a><!-- m -->
cliffs
"Either the bearing will wear down to the point where it disintegrates or the central stud will snap. If the stud snaps off there's a chance that the IMS will stay in place and not cause any damage, however if the bearing disintegrates the IMS is pretty much guaranteed to fall out of place. If the IMS does fall out of place, the timing chains skip timing. From there, pistons hit valves and can swiftly destroy the heads, cylinder walls and other things that one wouldn't want to pay for replacing. After a failure, a rebuild or replacement is the only option."
other fun jobs:
- air oil seperators like to fail, $$$
- top fails, $$$
- if you're doing the IMS you should do the rear main seal anyway, more $$$
- early engines would sometimes lose chunks of the cylinder walls. google image search "boxster D chunk"
no fun cheap swap options yet for when it does blow up

Why do I want this?
I love me some R34 but that is not a $98k car to me. Not when I could wait a few more years and get one for like $20k when everyone and their mother is legally importing them.

While I agree that a 100k R34 should have a federally legal title (last fed legal motorex R34 sold for 94k on ebay about 1.5yr ago iirc), you will NOT see them for 20k in a few years. Here is the reason why: 4 years before R32s could be brought over, you could find high grade examples for 6k in japan, US legal to import are now 12k+ for the same grade. Right now, at this very second, a decently graded R34 IN JAPAN is running around 35k+, all bone stock. R34 had a much higher MSRP and not very many were sold in comparison to 32s and 33s, hence their value is holding much better. When R34s become legal stateside, they will all be in the 60-80k range landed in the US with all paperwork done.
Side note: Most black/grey market R34s sell for around 60k-75k right now stateside, lowest price ive seen one in the past 3 years was a narrowbody GTT converted to GTR drivetrain for 45k in florida. There is a facebook group for the purchase of these black/grey market cars that you can easily find without much effort, but you can also have your car taken by the feds at any point in time they deem they want it as well and all it takes is a single hater

TL R - 100k is too high, 20k in a "few years" (6.xx years) aint happening I will admit that I don't have a constant finger on the pulse of these cars and was being a bit grandiose in throwing $20k out there, but didn't they also sell a ton of R34s in Australia? Looking around on Aussie sites R34s are selling for like $15k-20k AUD which is only like $11-15k USD. Would it not lead one to assume that someone will start importing them from down under and increase market inventory?

I'm sure they will still fetch Paul Walker prices in the US when they are finally legal but I feel like there will be more of them available than you think

If you had a passion for it, I feel like that would be a really worthy project. But i've got no idea on the market.
