The leather seats look to be in insanely good shape for 15 years and 70k miles.

No shot that isn't a bucket of rust.
Thanks guys. Yeah mileage seemed too good to be true. My dad grabbed some engine shots and there's corrosion in there which made him think it was a flood/coastal car.

the road salt used makes everything aluminum under hood look like absolute shit within a few years.

Toyota isn't exactly known for handling salt exposure well from that era either.
No big deal. Looking mainly for GX470s anyway.

Unfortunately you'll be hard pressed to find a 4th gen that isn't rusty in weird ways. Holes in the frame or body panel rot aren't an issue, but every single fastener will be completed corroded away and unturnable. The car won't fall apart, but you'll also never be able to take it apart. One of the most frustrating vehicles I had to work on.

Yeah I'm afraid of that with old 4x4s. Hoping living in the deep South will give me some better examples...but if it's not rust, it's amazing what sitting in blazing hot sun will do to paint and rubber. We'll see.

As a current and long-term 4th gen owner I disagree with this statement. Has it had it's moments? Sure, but it's not like it's the end of the world.

No more truck talk! This thread is about cars and foxes dammit! Now somebody run my VIN!
FYI: Lacking a bro hookup for a carfaques, do a search on amazon and there are a few people selling them for $10.
Its not free, but it beats $40 and turn around time is about 10 minutes. There is also a listing for a fox and an ottocheck together for $15
