I have one of the things DJ linked... works really well.
I also have a solar station (with batter pack) for the track... it helps me charge all the gizmos (AIM, gopro, phones, etc)

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
I haven't had the Optima on a tender for a week and have had no problems starting/running the car. I guess that means it's okay... for now.

The original keys for this car are long gone; I got two beat up old copies when I bought it. I tried getting fresh copies when I first got the car, but no one carried the right blanks. I've finally got around to finding some on the internet and decided I wasn't paying $40+ for a "genuine" blank that was likely a fake anyway. Yay $5 knockoffs that look identical minus PORSCHE stamped into it.

Is there anyone out there that makes new keys based off the lock cylinder? I hate seeing all of these copies made that are just as worn as the key they copied.

a good lock smith can hand cut one off the copies with access to the lock.
the price would be worth it if you could find a good NOS blank

For older cars like this a lot of locksmiths have the ability to re-pin the cylinder and cut you a brandy new key.
Probably not worth it until something like the cylinder breaks.

Despite the obvious wear, the key is smooth in the ignition. I was more concerned about the key snapping in my pocket due to metal fatigue than anything. This is like photocopies of photocopies... but I think there are a few more copies left in the tank before the key is unusable.

BMW does something similar I think. You're allowed 10 keys before they need to replace your lock cylinders, then you get 10 keys for that set.

This is Porsche, guys... nothing is easy or cheap. $5 internet knock-off is a way of life.

Well, the Optima is toast. It'll charge and start/run the car, but if it's not on a tender for a week the thing won't have enough juice to turn over. At least this one was free, 'cause the next one ain't gonna be.

In case anyone is curious, Optima's website shows no tax and then adds it in on your order confirmation. Lame as shit.

Because all the prices I found online were the same or higher and they didn't charge shipping or tax.

I was supposed to get this in the shop to start working on shock rebuild/replace, but the whole job thing means I'm not likely to spend money on it any time soon.
Here's a video of a cold start, which I do roughly every other day even if I don't drive it. If it sits for a week, there's some pretty decent fuel burn off on initial start. This thing has always been lopsided like tihs. The board is to keep crap from flinging onto my bike. Yay tiny garage!
I went to a meet up for pnw photographers last weekend. It was an aerial photography theme, but I'm not afraid to be that 40-something year old fat, bald guy with an old car and a camera. I"m happy to report I successfully used this thing as an icebreaker and to get people to (pretend to) like me. Honestly though, some of the professional photographers who were there shot stuff with the car. I learned a lot in a short while just by watching them. I think they were most excited about the super simple nature of window frames of old cars. I never really thought about it. Anyway, here are some photos I took where you can't really see the car that well.

Haven't seen a photo shoot of a car with an actually attractive person in a while. Those look great.
Is she SITTING ON YOUR BUMPER?!?!?!
The photographer maintained consistency at least. Can only see partially the car and the girl in each photo. #creepyoldmenhavingwomenposeforcars
