So the torsion bar on my Kershaw Tanto finally took a dump, after 11 years and 4 months of everyday carry and use. I was pretty bummed since we were just comparing EDC knives yesterday at work and then today part of mine took a dump. I had almost resigned myself to buying a new knife when I discovered that Kershaw has a lifetime warranty and you can order warranty replacement parts on their website, free of charge. Put in a request for a new torsion bar and it should be here next week to fix it.

That's pretty crazy.

Speaking of EDC, how many of you carry a light every day? (not a weapon mounted, just a regular ole flashlight)

I found a super bright little pen light that fit well in my pocket and successfully kept it on me for some time, but after losing two of them I gave up.  Confused
I might try another one now that you mention it....

I carried one on the weekends all the time until I lost it. Fenix FD09.

I carry a Streamlight Microstream every day. It's pretty decent, only runs on a AAA battery and has pretty good battery life. One of my coworkers gave it to me when I started 4.5 years ago and I've carried it ever since. The clip has a reverse side so you can clip it to a cap bill which has proven handy several times over trying to hold a flashlight in your mouth.

These are the flashlights our agency issues us. Little big for everyday carry, but they are super bright, have a bright and dim setting as well as a strobe setting. They also come with a wrist lanyard so if you need to drop it quick you can, without losing it.

My old partner carries that first one. It's a good deal brighter than the one I carry, but battery life is slightly compromised.

2 things. The torsion bar came in for my Kershaw about two weeks ago. Replaced it in about 5 minutes and it works like new. The old bar must have been fatigued/failing for some time, because it opens with much more force now than before.

Also, Wal-Mart has their metal ammo-cans on sale for $9. I picked up the few that were left today and may order a few more. Solid, stackable and come with a desiccant inside for good measure.

So. Things.

1: I "built" an AK. Centerfire was having a sale on DDI's leftover barreled receivers, basically guns that weren't finished when DDI went out of business. They were trying to make a 100% american made AK, and they were ok, but lots of them had an out of spec extractor that broke and pissed people off.

Started out like this:

I threw about 200 bucks of parts at it, and Now looks like this:

.jpg   IMG_20180522_153842_417.jpg (Size: 413.66 KB / Downloads: 188)

I'm a sucker for plum furniture, I think it looks great. I waffled back and forth over a refinish, since sitting in a tennesee warehouse it got a little rusted, but ultimately decided it's an AK after all, and a little patina was fine. I lubed the shit out of it to prevent additional corrosion and called it a day.

It's fun, but I still need to get the sights dialed in and get some kind of optic on it...probably gonna add a utilimak gas tube and throw a red dot up there. It's not like it's a 500y rifle or anything.

2: I joined Defense Distributed for a year today. Mostly because I'm fucking pissed off at everyone going all Henny-Penny about it. If you don't know, back in 2013 the State Department shut down Defense Distributed, which was hosting plans/code for 3D printed firearms. It's important to note that if you're not a prohibited person, that it's perfectly legal to manufacture your own firearms for personal use. If you can buy a gun, you can make one. Simple as that. And you don't need a 3d printer or a fancy CNC machine, you can make a "ghost gun" out of a shovel with basically 100 year old tools.

Anyway, State said "OMG YOU'RE EXPORTING MILITARY EQUIPMENT BY POSTING 1's AND 0's ON THE INTERNETS!" and shut 'em down. There was a lawsuit, and earlier this month, the State Department settled. Everyone lost their minds.

Ultimately, it isn't even a gun issue but a free speech one. If 1's and 0's are speech, then the government can't stop your speech. If 1's and 0's aren't speech, then, well...we have a much larger problem on our hands.

So anyway, I threw my 40 bucks at it, just to help with the War Chest. If you like guns OR free speech, you should too. Smile

Been following it. Feels a lot like the crypto war that was being raged 20 years ago, and I think it will probably end the same way. Without having researched it, are there other off-brand 3 D printed "guns" out there by now? What's next, gonna block the internet to a foreign site hosting it? Etc,etc.

P.S the government is still stupid on cryptography to this day, but they've already lost no matter how they legislate

There's already a dozen+ Mirrors, including one from the CalGuns foundation.

And yeah, echoes of PGP for sure. (Even if Zimmerman thinks that HIS code is fundamentally different from Wilson's code.)

The EFF has also been weirdly silent on this issue.

Bought a Beretta 92FS off a co-worker who was looking for some cash for a Vegas trip. Gave him $400 for the gun, two mags, factory case and paperwork. I’ve always wanted one of these because I feel like if it’s good enough for the military it should be good enough for me. I don’t know how much I’d ever carry this gun, but I like it. It’s big, it’s heavy, it has a safety (which I’m not used to), but I may keep it as a truck gun for days in the woods or something. First trigger pull (double action) is heavy and long, but 2nd and subsequent are smooth as butter. I may sel my Ruger P89DC since I don’t need two full size 9mm guns.

Man, that has to have the longest featured-in list on IMFDB. If I close my eyes the first 92FS I see is in the hands of JCVD in Hard Target

It should've been Bruce in Die Hard, but really, Hard Target was drowning in Berettas

Anyways, congrats on snagging every 80's & 90's action hero's sidearm!

$400 is an ok deal. Not amazing or anything, but pretty good.

It's a decent enough pistol. I'm of the opinion that dropping block designs were obsolete somewhere around the spring of 1945, but whatever, it's fine. The safety sucks, everyone I know who carried one for social purposes used the safety as a decocker only. When you flip the gun to safe it decocks the hammer, and if you flip it back to fire you've got your double action, but no high-as-giraffe-pussy safety to fiddle with. This is so common that Beretta sells the "decocker only" lever to turn your 92fs into a 92g. Other than that ergonomic issue they're fine. The only reason Uncle Sugar got rid of them is because it was cheaper to buy P320's than it was for them to overhaul their broken 92's.

I'd say hit me up re: your Ruger because that gun is great for living in gloveboxes and consoles, but you'll probably get more money (if more hassle) from someone else.

I am genuinely staggered how you guys remember specific models of pistols from movies back when we were kids. All I knew about guns back then were that they went pew
