I "cut the corner" and half ass a manual 95% of the time because that's really all you need to get over most things. I'd try it out a bit to see how it feels. The recoil trick works good until you mess up the timing and then it's gets sketchy really fast.
Dropper posts are definitely legit. Probably my favorite upgrade that came on my Stumpjumper along with the 1x11 setup. Probably the first bike I've ever had that's actually big enough for me. It's a 29er XL setup which would probably look ridiculous if I wasn't as big as I am. I might have to bring it down with me if you guys are gonna be riding after work.

Lol you and me both. I'm running a 29er XL Scott Hardtail. Going to convert to 1x10 today. Ordered a RaceFace 32T Single-wide chain ring for up front as well as upgrading to a XT bottom bracket. Pretty sure my current BB is absolutely smoked. It was groaning when I first got the bike. Going to see how that plays out and whether I will need to pickup a 11-42 rear cassette to give me a little more climbing power. I pretty much run the middle ring on my 3x10 anyways so I'll be fine. Coming from the SS life I've got the leg strength.
Bring it!
I'm serious about a race team for that event.
@DJ, when can we all come crash at Casa de Fitzpatrick and do a Tour de NC?
