WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions)

I think the cost of ownership outweighs the longevity benefit. I have a friend in the commercial landscaping business who was in charge of his companies fleet (80+ vehicles) and they were switching back to gas trucks, even 250s/350s because they are cheap to maintain. Even big companies like Brightview (acquired Brickman) are moving to gassers.

Are you guys factoring in resale value? At least in the 3/4 ton market which I am currently shopping it is amazing how stupid the 3-8 year old truck market is. I will definitely lose more on my ATS than I will on the truck over the same length of ownership.

Yeah, on modern trucks I feel like the rest of the car will fall apart or be trashed before the motor goes.

We are not talking about 3/4 ton. We are talking about diesel f150s, dodge 1500s and colorados.

+1, for resale value alone I would never buy a 3/4 or 1 ton without a diesel in today’s environment.

I sold my 3/4 ton after 8 years and 90k miles for $4k less than I bought it for. Just an excuse to buy another highly depreciating asset!

Pretty sure most everyone spoke of personal experience and not telling his wife what to do.

This is why you shouldn't let them work... they don't have their own money to make bad decisions!

(That's obviously a joke.)

I have no idea how you drive a honda pilot in the kitchen

The Real Time AWD is very helpful for navigating all those stairs though.

I'm sure the power adjustable pedals are good for getting a good barefoot driving position, too.

Getting info from car dealers seems to be like pulling teeth. Getting photos takes days. Asking them to get the service history is all "oh come on down its a great car, 13,000 point inspection!". Its on the carfax assholes, call them and get the fucking records sent over. You have email. Or the fax /office space.

Fuck.

I got my bike, I got my reliable daily. Now I want something fun.  I've been out of the car shopping game for so long now, I've realized that my tastes from 8 years ago are now like....really really old.  Here's what I'm looking for:

1: Reliable
2: I can auto-cross/track day it and learn how to drive properly (finally).
3: Aftermarket is decent.
4: Fairly easy to work on without specialized equipment.
5: Under 12k.

I'm thinking a nice NB Miata or something but... Is it still the ONLY answer though? Its hard to believe that meme is still relevant now just like it was in college. I love s2000's and have obsessed over them for years but it's not going to be in my budget.

I don't care number of doors or seats but I'd like right wheel drive or AWD and I'd like to row my own gears.

Aren't they though?

Maximizing the budget there, but I'd lean toward a nice, well-sorted NB miata

Can be had cheaper. I just picked the first one I saw.

These make 300 lb-ft of torque with an engine mount, intake, catback, and intercooler.

Wrong wheel drive though. Maybe I'd be convinced if I drove one. Also, what is fords reliability like now? I know Jake sold his F150 because of issues that couldnt be resolved by the dealer.

I wouldn't look at Jake's F150 thing as anything to base the vehicle from. Very unique situation imo. Mine is at 70k miles of pushing 40 more hp than stock and doesn't miss a beat. Drive mine some time.

C5 non Z06? $8k and throw some nice wheels, exhaust and SKF wheel bearings on it. T-top for daily driving. Do a “STU” scca build for autox; would be a hell of a fun street car.

I can’t harp on this enough, my C5 was easier to drive in traffic and everyday than my e92 m3.

If you buy an NB, Tyler, I'll forgive you for butchering the Miata Is Always The Answer thing.

As soon as you say RWD and in the $10k range you have to say miata. 3-4 years ago you could have added S2k (first two years) to it, but they are going up in price these days.

generally i would discourage anyone from getting into tracking with a AWD car. right wheel drive or wrong wheel drive, they both identify flaws and the AWD will cover them up to a point where an accident is usually catastrophic.
