SLOOWW - Kevin's CBR600RR
#1
Well, it's 4:13 on a Tuesday afternoon and I'm waiting on Office to install on a few laptops - figured it was as good a time as any to start a build thread for the CBR.

So, on 12/31/2016 I traded my beloved (but entirely too expensive to upkeep) TT swapped 3000GT for an '05 CBR600RR, $2k, and a bunch of bike accessories/gear. It was a pretty good trade considering I would've had a hard time selling the car at all. Nobody seems to want those things for whatever reason Rolleyes

The bike had 21k miles on it when I got it, as well as a Yoshimura slip-on exhaust, a Corbin seat, Zero Gravity windscreen, and a 520 chain conversion with -1/+2 sprockets (AKA it's torquey as f*ck)

The first picture of it (when the guy dropped it off at my friend's house in Culpeper). Gotta love those green tribals on top of grey tribals...

Tribals which were all soon removed, revealing a great-looking bike underneath.

Considering it was my first bike, I've sadly put a scratch or two on it from dropping it in stupid places. Only one was moving though (and was at like 2mph). So it still looks pretty decent now.

I pretty much kept it as it was for a while till one of the parking lot drops cracked the windscreen. At that point I picked up a colorful windscreen and some orange wheel stripes.

That was pretty much the end of my first season of riding. This spring I've added a Puig farbon ciber rear fender and a Sebimoto carbon fiber front fender.

I also removed the gross-looking eBay turn signals and replaced them with some smaller LED front/rear signals. As well as some amber LED blinker strips on my passenger pegs for more visibility. For more LED goodness I added some LED headlight bulbs I found on threretrofitsource. Shame on me for not retrofitting, but considering they're literally just for looks since I never use the bike at night.........oh well.

Future mods? Most likely new fairings (thinking white with gold accents or metallic grey with neon blue or orange accents) and maybe a power commander for a few more HP. Right now, though, it's a friggin blast just as it is.

Wow, removing those vinyl things really made the bike 100% better. Good for you to have the confidence to trade a trade from someone that seems pretty... Uh... Trustworthy.

Yeah, it really did wonders. The guy is actually a really cool dude who has a fully restored 1st gen, near-1000whp Camaro. He just had really bad taste in visual things lol. We're actually friends on FB now and he keeps me updated with his new mods on the 3000GT.

I've put 8k miles on the bike so far and it hasn't had a problem! *knock on wood*

Whoops! Good catch. I got this at the end of 2016. Got the Volvo a year later at the end of 2017

I was gonna say 8k during the winter is insane!I couldn't help but notice all those investment in cosmetic mods and no frame protection..? Invest in a set of sliders, F/R spools, and bar end sliders.

Have you done any rider training?

Guess I'll reply again now that the forums are working...

So, the bike has rear spool sliders and clip-on sliders. I unfortunately have to cut holes in the fairings for frame sliders :/ We'll see if I wanna do that or not. Maybe if I get new fairings and turn my old ones into track fairings or something like that. We'll see.

I've done the basic rider's course (to get my license) and most of those 8k miles were on twisty back roads. I haven't done but maybe 1000 highway miles on the bike. I'd go out pretty much every weekend last summer for a few hours and just explore/learn back roads around Blacksburg.

Get a set of Chinese race-rep fairings and cut holes in them:

Ehh, my current ones have enough scratches and whatnot that I'd rather just get some nice ones and turn the old ones into the crappy fairings.
