WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions)
Lastly, Infinity G37. Decent selection of these with RWD/6-speed in your price range.

Goodspeed, have you driven the newer IS? I'm worried they'd be too fat and slow.

There is also the Volvo S60 R, but it’s getting up there in age and mileage. Still, it’s a large,300hp manual AWD.

This is the problem with the latest gen IS250 so I suspect it is likely the problem of the older gen. I know those cars are hard to find in manual as well.

Yeah, no.  Those cars eat front suspension parts for breakfast and they have drivetrain problems. I'd rather have an E34/E39.

What I really want is a B8 S4, the one with the supercharged 3.0 v6, but that's going to be $30k and up for a nice one.  In theory I'll have the wagon paid off this year so having a car payment isnt the worst thing I guess, especially if I found a CPO car.  But it would be nice to roll into next year without any car payments and I dont want to buy a $30k car that is going to sit idle most of the time.

Why no G37? Seems like a safe choice with no major drawbacks.

The IS250s are super slow. Mom has one and it's a decent daily driver but I wouldn't call it sporty.

I like the suggestions so far, and even an old IS300 like Goodspeeds if you can find one with a MT. I miss mine! RIP

Uh.... if half the photos in the ad are service receipts perhaps I should look elsewhere.

My wife liked the look of the ATS.  BRB, going down the turbocharged rabbit hole.  Does GM performance sell tunes/parts for the 2.0T motor?

Is solid option.  I really like the new accord with the 2.0t / 6-speed, too.  Its like a CTR that wasnt beaten mercilessly with the ugly stick (Sorry, G).

The new Accord Sport w/ a 2.0 and 6 spd is probably a great daily. The new Accord, overall, is getting screaming reviews. But the upgrade to the 2.0L is a pretty penny and will be way over your budget.

I love the Honda/Acura headlights with the array of lenses and LEDs, looks so awesome.

Accord Sport with the 2.0, do it.

more or less, the 2L DI is a decent engine.

i would pass. the 2.5L EJ25 in the current and past-gen STi is an old-ass engine that requires some tweaking to make it a fully reliable daily....you need to shop those used very, very carefully.

everyone i know who's owned/driven one has basically said:
- far faster than has any right to be
- no traction whatsoever, just 1-wheel peel
- brakes are not up to the task of the way it can move, at all

if you like roll-racing out of the toll booth and like running the traction control 24/7 then it might be worth checking out

it'll be the slowest thing you've driven in years if you're OK with that. stupid reliable though.

It might not be as peppy as the 6 banger accord, but what about a first gen TSX? get four doors, 3 pedals, 200ish hp, variable timing on both the intake and exhaust, still only one wheel drive but apparently any K series lsd will slap right in.

If I'm going to blow the budget on something it has to be warrantied, and preferably new, so the payment on a new accord sport, while unpalatable, is not totally off the table. I guess if I bought a new car the E91 would sit idle more often, which is totally fine with me, as much as I'm already griping about what that fuckin' thing is costing me to maintain.

I'd be ok with a slower Civic Si, because, Scotty listening to your tales of hoonery just brings me back to ripping around in an ITR. The TSX is an interesting choice - my parents have an '07, although with an automatic, but it has all the fit/finish/smells/sounds of the 90's hondas and that always gives me the warm fuzzies in the feels. Its cheap, and more power is a head swawp and k-pro tune away. The price is right on both of those, plus honda reliability.

Goodspeed, how hard is it to find a nice condition, manual trans IS300? I had forgotten about those.
