Since the "cool cars for sale that aren't yours" was getting hijacked by this anyway, let's all live vicariously through Our Jakeypants and benchrace your faaaaaaaaaaavo-rite choice for new Thiewsmobile.
Also, this will give the opportunity to call all you abarth retards what you are.
Personally, I'm firmly in the Boxster camp. It's got everything he wants and nothing he doesn't, and it's got tons of german parts with wires coming out so it's right up his alley. And budget. And it's a vert. And awesome.

OK so first of all, thank you Rex... I didn't know if I'd create one of these threads but I guess there's enough discussion to merit one.
Basic Shit- $10k or so is the budget
- Will be driven 5-7k miles a year as the occasional commuter and otherwise "toy"
- Shall not be pristine, as the Camry drivers of DC will all bump into it while parallel parking anyway
- Shall be reasonably reliable, but I can handle some occasional bullshit. But not much.
- Three pedals only.
- Impractical is good! I have a truck for hauling dudes and things. This only needs to haul me and one dude, or me and few things.
- Working AC is kind of crucial but not a sticking point.
- I want something interesting, that doesn't have to be explained. Slightly vain but IDGAF. Owning the FoST was a bitch because nobody outside of the car world knew what it was or why it was neat. And having to explain "Yeah it's a Focus buttheyaddedaturboandseats" ... everyone loses interest at "Focus."
The "Definitely Not" Cars- Miata of any generation (been there done that with NA/NB, don't fit in NC, ND is too new/expensive/ugly)
- S2000 (if you don't know, ask why)
- F-Body
- Any Subaru
- Nothing swapped... I don't want that much of a project
Worthy of Test Drives- E46 330ci
- E46 M3
- 03ish Mustang Mach 1 (only because the local dealer has one and it's orange)
- 06ish Mustang GT (Adam suggested a V6 but no, if I get a muscle car it will have a muscle car motor)
- 05ish Pontiac GTO, if I can handle owning another GM but maybe it won't be complete shit because it's Australian
- Fiat 500 Abarth although I don't think I'm that gay
- Mini Cooper S/JCW - is this too practical still? Every basic bitch has a base, automatic Mini in DC.
- 03-04 Boxster S
- 06ish Audi S4, although every bit of that 4.2L V8 crammed into that engine bay screams "dumpster fire waiting to happen"
- C5 Corvette? Can't afford a Z06 and I don't know if I'm really "that guy" anyway
- Z3M Roadster (S52)

An Abarth is retarded but a Boxster makes sense? Did you accidentally microwave your face this morning?

The Z roadster makes a lot of sense, I didn't know you could find them in that price range. I also like the Boxster idea, I have been warming up to the idea of Porsche lately.

Wait, Joey, are we serious about the Abarth? Yes, they make good noises, but those things arent even big enough to fit 2 pumpkin spice lattes in. They're are 100% a novelty car.

Well first of all, this is a third car so I don't think he's all that concerned about size and practicality. Second of all, no, but we shouldn't be serious about the Boxster either. No one on this forum is brave enough to buy a car you have to halfway take the top out of to access the engine.

Seriously, this stood out as making the most sense to me. You're a convertible guy, if it asplodes you already know how to fix it blindfolded and/or know 347 other people who can, and the aforementioned dingdingdong factor. Bonus points if it's evergreen.
Fuck you Goodspeed. I now have a ranging boner in Starbucks because of that Z3.
I'm also in the Japanese classics camp. $10k can get you some sick imported JDM icons. I still lust over a clean s13 silvia.

Your posts never fail to entertain, Goody.
I have to make sure I can fit in the Z3M with the roof up. That'll be a very quick "yes or no" thing, but I agree, it does make a lot of sense.

Since no Miata, why not a Fiat 124? That's technically not a miata... Is there an Abarth version?
But I like the z3/z4 idea. Seems to check a lot of boxes.

If you can live with the shame of two pedals, my buddy from back home is about ready to let go of a toy.
99 SL500 (I think they only made autos of these)

Pretty car, but nope, three pedal or GTFO.
Also, my feeling on owning an old Benz is kind of like an S2000. Not the fondest memories due to recent events so I'll probably stay far away.

Z3M all the way. I've definitely been wanting a s52 z3m for a while now.
I saw this thing in Harrisonburg the other day. Most of the interior was evergreen too.
