Samuel Reiman

Hey, I'm Samuel Reiman - a current Sophomore at James Madison University. I lived in England up until 2004 (when I was 13) and I was a huge Formula One fan over there. Favorite driver: Michael Schumacher. I kept up with the BTCC too but I guess that was about it. I did a lot of go-karting over there but was never that good at it, and then when I moved to America I was faced with the difficulty of finding a decent yet cheap go-kart track, and I also got sucked into NASCAR. I keep up with Formula One and NASCAR mainly, but I also know a thing or two about Indycar and Sports Car racing. I'm not much into drag cars, but I am getting my feet wet in the realm of motorcycles - having just obtained my learner's last summer (2010). I don't know a lot about the mechanics or cars in general, but from video games I have learnt the "best" ways (or at least some good ones) of driving them. Video games, you say? I can't do better than that? Well that's why I'm here! I've never been able to get out and race or even drive fast. I only just got back in a true European go-kart this summer when I was at G-Force karts in Richmond. Got a 29 second lap as my fastest which is respectable, I think, having not been in a kart for five years. I can't wait to take my car out onto an actual race track though, that is a dream come true for me - it's unreal! Even if it is not such a great car. (Well, it's a great car to drive - it gets 31MPG and has about 94,000 miles - that's all I really know about it, and it's a 1997 Dodge Stratus). So yeah. I believe every form of motor racing is a sport - and that's why I want to do the 2 hour enduros at g-force carts (so that I can defend my belief and get worn out) - and I just want to see how fast my car can go around VIR. It gets boring just driving her at 65 on the highways eventually. Samuel Reiman

welcome to the club, like the enthusiasm, next VIR event is October, great way to at least get some ride-alongs. There are plenty of people here who can get you ready for a track day, or an autocross. But be careful, don't hit the GFCP too hard, or you'll be screwed for life.

Welcome. Sounds like you need to sign up for an autocross ASAP. You should also consider the karts at Summit Point. I've only done them once, but they are a blast. I am sure the club is doing karting at some point this semester.

Sounds great guys! To prove my lack of knowledge, however - mind telling me what GFCP stands for?

I've already registered for the autocross next weekend and I'm currenly printing off my numbers - providing the number is going to be what I selected on the registration site where it asked for a three digit number next to your car information? Then I assumed that since I'm entering in Stock H Class that I need the letters HS on both sides after the numbers: 363. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I also ordered the shirt. Can't wait 'til race day! Just 11 days left!!!!!

Two more quick questions: should I print out the GS sticker too just in case I get assigned to that instead? And also, you're not allowed to have loose articles in the car - but can you close stuff in your glovebox or CD rack (mine of which has a lid)?

They'll probably have you stay in HS, just print out an extra T for "tire" class. The tire class will give you more competition and a better pax score (driver/car handicap adjustment) which will improve Madison Motorsports overall score. you can edit your registration and where it says pax scoring or something, just use the dropdown and select TIRE.
As for preparation, just make sure there's nothing in the interior that's loose stuff things in the glovebox that are small enough, and clean out the interior of the car the day before or day of, that way nothing rolls out from under the seat and under your feet or pedels while driving. Go to <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.brr-scca.org">www.brr-scca.org</a><!-- w --> and look up info about what you have to have done for tech inspection.
As far as any other car prep, up the air in the tires to about 40psi (maybe 42) and that's about it.
Sorry I couldn't stick around long after class, I have to dash from showaker, to the baseball field parkinglot beyond C4 and get to bridgwater at work by 2:30 which can get tricky when class lets out at 1:45.

Just worked out how to get images on here so I figure I'd share an image of my stock 1997 Stratus. I won't be surprised if you prefer the appearance of the green one...
