But you live in Nova?

That's not the city. I avoid anything in the beltway when I can.
It's still an urban hell hole. Sterling is certainly not away from the "riff Raff".

This is true. It was more of a joking stab at Apoc :-p

I didn't go to college to have to understand jokes.

It does make me wonder if I'd be surprised by anything after being gone for 6.5 years. I think that means Taylor didn't even have a license when I left?

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Yeah, I got my license in 2012, haha. Didn't even know what "Nova" was.

I feel so old...

Back to the main thread:

Any other plans for the mk7? I'm looking at that cleaner for my interior buts now. Those seats look minty.

As soon as my Subaru sells, I'm going to get the Unitronic stage 1+ engine tune and stage 1 transmission tune. Other than that, I'll probably throw a mild set of lowering springs on it and wheels at some point. My stock wheels are all curbed up from the previous owner. These wheels are the worst of any car I've owned it's also the newest.

Last Thursday night I installed the stage 1+ ecu and stage 1 tcu tunes from Unitronic. The flashing process is a little stressful as it takes about 30 minutes and you have all sorts of error messages popping up on the cars display while it's happening, but it went by without any problems.

The car is definitely pretty quick now. If you don't ease into the throttle in second it will have no problem lighting up the tires. Having said that, traction issues are really not nearly as bad as I would have thought. If you ease into the throttle it hooks up well in second. This car is probably the most effortlessly fast car I've owned so far. I'm not saying it's the fastest at all, just that it takes no effort to accidentally be going 20 mph over the speed limit. It's kind of the opposite of the M3 in this regard. You have to rev the shit out of that to get it to go anywhere.

As far as the transmission tune goes, it doesn't really affect the manual mode which I use 95% of the time. The shift points and how it acts in drive mode has changed a lot though. It's not completely miserable to drive around in that now because it doesn't shift to a higher gear going up a hill with light throttle like it used to. I wouldn't have paid for this tune if it was me, but since I got it for free anyway, it's kind of nice to have the drive mode fixed.

Overall, the car is a lot more fun to drive now. The dsg shift noises are way louder and deeper, the diverter valve is way louder with the extra pressure. It's just better all around. My girlfriend also got her first hit of the go fast crack pipe with this thing and was giggling like an idiot. Before this she had never actually driven a fast car fast because she won't drive my manual cars.

A few small updates:

This is the best daily driver I've had yet and the only thing I would really consider replacing it with at this point is a Golf R.  Maybe in a few years.

I changed the DSG fluid at 42k.  This was a easy job using the top fill method.  The only "special" tools it required was a 14mm hex bit and a funnel with a tube on it.  The top fill method is a little slow, it probably takes about 4-5 minutes per quart to make its way into the transmission.  Overall definitely an easy DIY.

At the same time I also did an oil change.  This one ended up being a pain in the ass because I broke the oil filter adapter rod inside the oil filter cap when I was taking that off.  Turns out they don't make that part anymore and it has been replaced by a newer more sturdy version.  So I ordered that newer version and when I started the car back up I was getting an oil pressure warning.  I call the dealer again and ask what else I need to make the new part work with my car, but they have no idea.  They think I might need a whole new oil filter housing (metal piece that bolts to the block and is a few hundred).  I'm not willing to just throw money at it blindly so I hit the forums looking for answers.  There's basically no info online about this and I can't find any pictures of the inside of the new oil filter cap. So I start at the cheapest part and order the new cap hoping it would fix it.  Luckily that actually took care of it and I avoided having to tear apart that side of the motor to replace the housing.  I've since documented this on the forums so hopefully the next poor soul who brakes their adapter will have some info.

While I was prepping everything for winter, I also finally got around to readjusting the bulbs in the Ed's replica headlights I had.  They weren't quite setting right from the vendor and I had a weird beam pattern.  Now they're much more even.  I've so far been very impressed with these lights for what they cost.

Before (top) / After

The glare on the bottom picture isn't the main low beams, just the LED running lights.
