Hey everyone! We have left over food from the Car Show, so MM is having a cookout at my house! Bring some snacks and cold beverages and don't forget to kiss the cook!

Where: 502 Snowberry Lane, Copper Beech

When : April 15th at 3PM

How: Parking will be abundant before 7PM here in Copper so don't worry.

The weather will be great and so will the food, We'll have corn hole, pong, music, and all kinds of stuff. A perfect last hurrah before finals week. As always, if the alums are in town, they are welcome to join. We might even go on a cruise before. The cookout even ends just in time to head up to Summit for the weekend!

  2.0 aba 8v help
Posted by: Rupertfl - 04-04-2016, 08:43 AM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (14)

I got my 81 rabbit (2.0 swap) on Saturday, Sunday I got to work as I was trying to find out why the car won't start I found out this. Everything from the battery to the distributer cap is reading 12.4 volts, but when I put the cap back on and test a spark plug wire, it stays at 0. Do I need a new distributer or what's going on?
The car turns and has good compression, new starter, new battery, new battery cables, all interior electronics works with the key, just will not start.

A Flexy for Sexy Rexy - 2013 Ford Flex EcoBoost
Posted by: CaptainHenreh - 03-31-2016, 09:18 AM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (84)

A year ago I was pretty chill driving a Prius, just me and my almost 2 year old.

Then last month I found myself with not only an almost 3 year old still in a carseat, but an 8 year old and a beautiful wife. We barely fit in the Prius. Something had to give.

We didn't want a Minivan, but felt we needed a third row after taking my stepdaughter and her friend to the waterpark, and realizing that if we'd had Nanners that day we'd have been shit out of luck. So what do you buy when you need a third row, but don't want sliding doors?

We examined the following:
X5
MDX
Flex

Wife's uncle has a Flex and wife had already driven and ridden in it multiple times. Liked the idea. Thought it was well suited for us. I knew that I could get one with 365hp and all wheel drive, so I was game. Putting some feelers out, I got a call from a local dealer who had a "loaded Flex" with "everything" that I could just take for a few days, see how I liked it. I took it home, loaded the girls in it, helped the wife move the last of her stuff out of her old house, and thought "Damn. This thing is a DOG. Why is it so slow?" I pop the hood and apparently "loaded" with "everything" means "still has the boat anchor 286hp NA 3.5 V6." This isn't a BAD motor per se, but the car is quite large, and loaded up with boxes and white girl bullshit (Why is there a SADDLE in my house?) it definitely had trouble getting out of it's own way.

I return the car, tell the guy "Turbo is a requirement, find me one with a power panoramic roof for $fairprice and I'll buy it." He hemmed and hawed and said "Well you're asking for a car that was 50 grand new, how am I supposed to make any money selling you one for $totallyfairprice even if I find it and I looked all over!"

You making money is your job. Me saving money is mine. You can't find me a car, we can't do business. Simple as that.

In my searchings, I find a car in OHIO of all places. Off-Lease, CPO, for less than edmunds TMV. Gotta be a piece of shit, right? Email sales manager, he sends me pictures of anything I ask while I'm on the phone with him. Leased, serviced, and now sold all at the same dealer. Shit, I'll take it. So I drove my wife's 1/4million mile Maxima to buttfuq, Ohio yesterday to buy this:
[Image: 9f5d2b44-0f25-4863-ab60-7b59a51aaa3f_zpsedithbrr.jpg]

A 2013 Ford Flex Limited Ecoboost. I get there and it's cherry. I can find precisely nothing wrong with the car. No wear on the seats, it's clean as a whistle, even has the rear cargo net still in the bag. I do not bother negotiating, the price is fair, I have driven deep into enemy territory for this thing. Give me the car. He tosses the keys at me and I head home. Real talk: Nothing will tell you if you like a car like spending 5 and a half hours in it right off the bat but I think it's damn near perfect for my family. Loads of space, very comfortable and for the sheer size of the car, almost absurdly rowdy. Excellent road manners driving "normally" but if you need to GO, you just press the skinny pedal and the car says "Oh, you want speed? OK YOU SON OF A BITCH LET'S PARTY" and she scoots.

OG window sticker:

This isn't "everything" you could get in a Flex. It has pushbutton start and the panoramic roof, which were requirements, but you could also get adaptive cruise, cooled seats, parking assist and a power folding rear seat. Hell, you could get a refrigerated center console if you wanted but I'm kind of glad I didn't. I feel like this is a good balance between "stuff that is cool AF" and "stuff that is going to be impossible to fix when it breaks in 5 years." Besides, they didnt' sell that many Ecoboost Flexes (Aka: SHOFlex) in the first place. This one has everything I want and a nice bonus in the tow package.

Anyway, hate away.

  What to Buy Next?
Posted by: lxpeery - 03-30-2016, 11:25 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (46)

So, I'm in the process of cleaning house right now, and I'm working on what to buy next. Selling the Mustang and the Corvette this Friday, so I'll have a nice chunk of change from that. I'll probably buy a bigger truck, because I'm tired of second gear up 33 and getting stuck in dry grass with the Ranger. I'll then sell the Ranger and the Miata as soon as it's roadworthy, so that leaves us with the real question: what fun car comes next?

I was originally thinking about a C5 Z06 Corvette, but then a certain club member (*cough*Paul*cough*) beat me to it and bought the exact same car, down to the color and year. Don't really want to have two of the same car at meets and whatnot. I'll get confused. So now I'm thinking AP2 S2000 or perhaps BRZ. I feel like too many people have issues with a lack of power in the BRZ though, so I'm definitely leaning towards the S2K. Can anyone provide any valuable information about ownership of the S2Ks that would be good for me to know? Any alternate suggestions?

18x8 Black Enkei Performance M52 wheels with Blizzacks
Posted by: Ken - 03-29-2016, 03:55 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (1)

Hi guys,

So my brother sold his CLA AMG and no longer has a need for this winter setup.

He is outrageously nitpicky about his stuff so these things are basically new and only saw one winter's worth of use.

Enkei Performance M52 - Painted Black
18x8, 45mm offset

225/40R-18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32 XL

I can get pictures of their current state for anyone interested. They're currently in our house's (temperature controlled, if it matters) basement wrapped in plastic bags.

Looking at 1K OBO plus any shipping expenses. Definitely will not split up tires and wheels.

Holden Broughman ***UPDATED - 73 Mustang***
Posted by: 73Broughman - 03-28-2016, 11:50 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (2)

Hello, my name is Holden Broughman, I am from Covington, Va which is about an hour and a half south of Harrisonburg. My daily driver is a 2013 Impala at the moment, but I am also the owner of a 73 Mustang. I have been very passionate about cars from the start. This 73 Mustang was actually my dads 30 some years ago (he bought it in the early 80s), since I was about 16 I pretty much became the caretaker for the car. The car is pretty much bone stock, it has a 302 V8, and in need of a paint job (it still has its original paint from 1973, so it's decent for the shape it's in). I just recently was able to get some pictures uploaded!

  Visit to DC
Posted by: davej - 03-24-2016, 11:49 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (24)

It's looking like we'll be taking a semi-spur-of-the-moment family trip to DC this weekend, maybe leave here Saturday afternoon and come back Monday or Tues. Any suggestions on places to stay? DC proper seems spendy, but is it worth it to find something outside and drive or ride the metro in? I've really got no concept of how easy or hard it might be to get around on a weekend vs work day.

We don't have any specific plans but figured we could hit up a Smithsonian or two, check out the cherry tree stuff, etc.

And on an unrelated note, anybody interested in dog and/or house sitting for a couple of day?

My dad car -- 2012 VW Jetta
Posted by: Gordonovski - 03-15-2016, 11:02 PM - Forum: Member's Projects - Replies (12)

Some might already know, some might not, but this past week I inherited a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SE 2.5 automatic with just 53k miles and had to rid myself of the mk4. I'm lucky enough that my dad wanted a new Crosstrek and was willing to give me a car that hopefully won't shit the bed in the next few years while being pretty tediously daily driven, but it's surprisingly (/s/) boring, so in the coming months I'm going to be looking for something a bit more fun with potential to become a future track/tt/racekor.

With that being said, it's a decent car, base model as fuck though, lots of plastic, but it does have enough torque to not be a slouch on the highway and is certainly better to drive than my girlfriend's Accord. The only thing I would like to change with the engine is to make it a little more responsive, as it there is a noticeable delay between pedal input and engine response, but that's (I'm assuming) to up the mpgs. The little 5 cylinder is good on gas though, made it from Yorktown, to OBX, to Harrisonburg on less than a tank, so I'm pleased with that.

Build quality is good but definitely not as good as the mk4 when it hit the market, but the mk4 was much more expensive than the mk6 when they were new. There's a lot of plastic in the interior -- I actually don't think there's any metal in the entire interior maybe besides the bezel around the gear selector. Taking inspiration from RCR, I'm thinking about naming her Plastic Paula. The seats certainly could be better but do hug a bit better than the mk4 did, though I will certainly miss heated seats.

As this is very much a practical daily, I don't have any huge plans for it save for getting LED DRLs and maybe replacing the steelie/hubcaps with GLI or OEM alloys to reduce weight a little but mostly make it look a bit nicer. Other than that, just going to drive it for some years, fix things when they break, and hope I can sell it for enough to help buy a truck when I need one.

I'll post up pictures tomorrow, but it's grey and boring. If anyone has tips/tricks/hints/how to make the car slightly better, please post them. I don't want to put a whole lot into it, as I'd like to save for something special, but right now the biggest upgrade I've done is an aux cord.

Teach me how to sell a car.
Posted by: Senor_Taylor - 03-15-2016, 09:38 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (42)

Hey everyone. I'm just curious how everyone goes about selling a car. The whole process, car prep, what documents to have ready, what you do when people come to look, how you handle the paper work afterwards, etc. Both times I've bought a car myself, I felt pretty overwhelmed a nervous, so I'm not sure if I've got the process down, especially from the other side.

Enlighten me, oh grumpy ones.
