well about a month ago i was checking my brakes to see if it was time to slap the metallic pads on, it wasnt time. I did however notice that my rotors were grooved quite badly, but also the brake pad had the exact same groove pattern so that the grooves interlocked. I was thinking seeing how the grooves lined up wouldnt that in essence give the brake rotor more surface area to help stop? like if you straightened out a ^v^v^v^ youd get -------------------. Using the same logic if this was the case and it worked, why dont they make brake rotors with some beast grooves with matching pads? or am i completely lost in my head thinking this? help me out im sure theres a reason this is bad/wouldnt work.

Just for the hell of it, I'll start another discussion. Oh yeah, this is for street related driving, not the track.
Over break I had the chance to test drive/ride in a couple diff. cars. I drove one of the new BMW X3's. The first one was a 2.5L with the sport package. This thing rode incredibly horrible! You felt every bump, but the handling was outstanding. There was very little body lean, and it actually inspired some confidence in the turns. The sport package also includes "sport seats" which I thought were very stiff and uncomfortable. My back hurt after a while sitting in them. We also drove a 2.5L without the sport package. This rode a lot better, had better seats, but lacked the crisp handling. It was also kind of sluggish, and had to be pushed when accelerating. The 3.0L only had the stiff suspension (from what the salesman said). The other part that was disapointing was the interior. It just felt cheap, and for $ 40 grand, it should be better. My dad's 03 4-runner is a lot nicer inside and out (personal opinion), and has V8 power for about the same price range.
There was also a new 6 series on the lot, as well as many 5's, including a 545 6speed. Of the new BMW's, I have to say the styling is a hard bite at first. I wasn't crazy of the 6, esp for 70 grand. The 5's are much better looking than the 7's but I'd take the previous 540 model over it any day.
After the BMW dealer, we looked at various Mercedes. Just from 1st impressions, the styling (SL 500!), interior, and built quality just seem much better. A few years ago, I was saying the EXACT opposite for the tri-star company.
I'm leaving out the M and AMG cars in this comparo simply bc they are more track tuned and would involve a different discussion. Also, the current 3 series is still great, I would take one over a C class Benz any day.
For everyday driving, which brand does everyone prefer? I'm stuck bc of one little aspect- manual tranny's. If that doesn't matter, as in a 7 series and S class, the benz wins hands down.
Oh and one other thing, we drove a G35X sedan (all-wheel drive). WOW! Ride, quality, interior, stereo, and power is excellent. I see why they keep winning tests. The back seats also reclined at the pull of a lever.

Hey MM,
I just found out some interesting news, spoke to G, and he told me to post it here. So I'm not trying to brag, etc, but I know that a group of enthusiasts would enjoy sharing the excitement.
Ford allots its dealers a certain allocation of vehicles, everything from the New F-150's, to the Focus. Depending on how the dealership has done in competitions and incentive programs, Ford adjusts the Allocation.
Well, I just found out that our dealership (my family's in WV) just got allotted one (1) Ford GT, in any color we want. This is one of the 4 Dealerships in the entire WV/OH region. Ford isn't letting anyone but the dealers (and their family) test drive the GT (for obvious reasons), but we're lucky enough to have a father that owns the place.
The car is due in sometime this Spring. Anyhow, I get to drive one, and I'm so excited that I'm shaking. I'll be sure to take tons of pictures. I wish I could share this experience with everyone, and believe me I would if I could. G will vouch for me there.
So there's the post, hope everyone gets a little excited over it!
I think the dealership will have an unveiling event. If so, You are all invited. If you are interested in coming, I'll post details here.
Pete

Not enough discussion going on so:
Which power adder would you rather run: Nitrous, a turbocharger or a supercharger?
Why? Which of these would benefit your car and your style of racing? Or perhaps you just like one of these in general.

I drive to the baseball lot every morning, and occasionally they have one of those police radars setup to show how fast you're going... well today I noticed an OLD white Bronco or Chevy SUV (not sure) sitting in the really small lot near the baseball lot. Looked like the usual maintenance crew. Only thing I saw driving past were 2 small blue lights in the grill... no big deal. When I walked past it again, it took me several times to actually determine it was a cop. The only clues were blue state gov. plates, the small lights in the grill, and then 2 lights in the back window. Even the guy driving didn't have a uniform on. Just thought I'd inform everyone..
Oh yeah, JMU also uses a white Subaru wagon, and a white Jeep Liberty. Beware, they love speed traps!
