Howdy everyone! As you may know, me looking for a Miata turned into a fiasco with hundreds of Craigslist links and a thread spanning almost 10 pages. It is now over.

I rode down to Durham today and bought a white 92 with 153k on the clock. Manual everything but it has AC and PS. Top is in great condition. Just a tiny tear on the plastic window less than 2 cm. Interior is an 8/10. All of the fabric and everything look fantastic. Only flaws is that the radio is fitted poorly and you see space around it, the glove box is missing a hinge, and the guy broke the driver side window cable yesterday. It even came with one of those roof covers that snap on when the roof is down!

The guy was nice, but he was firm, so I couldn't talk him down, but I didn't care after driving it. Engine and transmission are strong. I even spun tires backing out of his drive way because I am less than spectacular at driving stick. Driving through Durham in afternoon traffic helped me improve quite a bit, though. I looked it over and it is practically rust free for a 22 year old car. Even the exhaust bolts are sparkling clean. Only thing I noticed was the rivets where the soft top meets the package tray are a little corroded.

Okay, I'll cut to the chase.

Super fly NB wheels
Brand new clutch and fly wheel
Interior is fantastic
Engine is strong
Headlight motors still work
No rattles or squeaks
Roof is great
Brand new Batter
Paint is <2 years old
A/C blows cold

Bad:
Driver side window doesn't roll down
Got hit by two tiny rocks on the drive back, so now I have 2 little cracks to fix before they spread
Shift boot has a small hole in it
Glove box is missing a hinge
Driver headlight doesn't close all the way
Speakers are about blown
Small hole in the plastic window
Needs brakes (badly)
Needs tires to pass inspection
Airbag Diagnostic Module is bad (92's use a cheap one)
Roof cover smells like gear oil
Radiator probably should be replaced eventually
Missing paint on the hood
Hood release doesn't work properly (Fixed that when I got home)
Wet oil around valve cover gasket and CAS. PO says he took the valve cover off to replace something with the thermostat, so I'll clean to oil off and see if it comes back.

Probably some other stuff. I should have it on the road by mid June when my summer classes let out. I'm just too excited. I love my truck, but I've dreamed of owning a Miata since I joined MM. I'll finally be able to do Auto-x, cruises, Track stuff, everything. I can be 100% MM and be a true car guy. I'm over the moon.

I also got a sick sun burn from driving all the way back with the top down

Since I've sold the Subaru I obviously kept the plates as a keepsake. I'm trying to get an understanding of the legality of actually doing so?

I know I've seen Jake/Joey's garage filled with old plates but I've read DMV can slam you with a huge fine if they think the plates are still active and you're driving the car around uninsured without paying the fee?

Or maybe I'm just making shit up.. IDK. :dunno:

Bike's gotta go to make room for car parts and some jet-setting, which makes me feel happy and super sad at the same time. Runs strong, has zero issues aside from a $30 torn rear seat.

Due to unexpected surgery I need to downsize the "fleet".
1997 BMW 328i. 119k, the original owner bought it new in Germany while in the service and brought it back with him. I purchased it from the original owners nephew who had the cooling system, clutch, and new Michelins (5k on all new parts since). I've replaced the power steering pump, and the lines, and an O2 sensor. Power steering, AC, cruise control, and sunroof. I bought it to commute 200 miles a day with and its really to nice of a car for me to do that too with. I'm replacing it with more of a "beater" that is disposable. It took me 8 months to find a no excuse car and this is it. I found the car in January and went with Jon Felton to take a look at it (as well as asking Jake 1000 questions about it during the process.....)

I've been thinking about posting this for a few days and was going to hold off. Today I decided I needed to vent/write something. Take it as you will.

Please be safe when riding and ride within your limits. As some of you saw on my facebook, I had a friend go down last week. He had only been riding about a year and was not very experienced. He was riding in some canyons outside of LA on an unfamiliar road on an unfamiliar bike and hit some gravel. From what I know, he let off the throttle and the bike up righted itself which sent him screaming into the canyon wall. Luckily he was with another friend who was able to ride until he got cell phone signal and called for help. He was airlifted to the hospital with multiple injuries and slipped into a coma. Broken collar bone, both lungs collapsed, a fractured skull with severe brain swelling. Day by day he has shown little signs of progress - opening his eyes a bit, moving his fingers. Last night another MRI was performed and his brain injury was upgraded to a traumatic brain injury and diagnosed as Diffuse Axonal Injury - 90% of people with this injury do not wake up and those that do suffer from severe impairments.

Please be safe when you are riding. This is devastating for his family and friends and was 100% preventable. Know your limits, know your bike, know your surroundings. Don't try and show off for your friends. Tell your family you love them before you get on 2 wheels - it sounds cliche, but it could be the last time you talk to them.

Hey guys I know we've talked about it a few times, but who would be interested in doing this type of thing, being a freshman's big. You could help them out getting used to the school, help get them to come to/ transport them to events and such, I think it would be a great way to really help pull more people into the club and get more interest in MM.

So the MKV was 4 days away from requiring emissions and the t-stat was stuck open and there was a slow but consistent coolant leak lurking in there somewhere, so it was going to need to be fixed to get it to test. On top of not really being happy with the configuration of that car, and the fact that it would also need a trans service and then tires at some point this year, I decided the most logical solution to deal with an old finicky VW product was to purchase a brand new VW product.

I know most of you have already fallen asleep, but this little white doorstop has been blowing my skirt up since I first caressed her supple, yet taught, bottom. It's super comfortable, has a kick ass stereo, back up camera, heated seats, keyless entry, etc. It offers a wall of torque on request in any gear at any speed, and the best part, fixing it when it breaks is officially someone else's problem for the next five years.

VW also seems to have finally solved their reliability issues. Instead of making better cars, now you just get a support team with your purchase. :lol:

I started the free trial of "Car Net", which allows me to press a little "i" button to talk to someone for whatever reason, I if I get lonely I guess. The "wrench" button also sends my location to the nearest dealership if the car breaks down. And then the SOS button is for emergencies. It will also automatically connect if the airbags are deployed and ask me if I'm ok, and if I say no or don't respond they send emergency services. If I do get hurt in an accident, they'll also call Lauren and tell her which hospital I'm going to.

It also lets you do some goofy shit from your smart phone like check the gas level/service interval and unlock the doors/flash the lights, as well as set speed and distance limits for when someone else is driving the car. I'm considering paying the $18/mo after the free trial runs out solely for the automatic emergency services feature. I really like the idea of having a little guardian angel on the other end of the line.

I asked to take delivery of it in precisely the condition they received it from the other dealership. The salesmen definitely seemed a little skeeved about giving a customer a car covered in dust, plastic and stock # stickers but I couldn't have been more pleased. I took it home and unwrapped it Saturday, gave it a bath and put a coat of Poorboy's sealant on it, then took it to the Sunday C&C meet and cruised around town all day yesterday.

The configuration is SE (middle of the 3 trim levels) plus DSG (because fuck you, that's why) and Lighting Package, because a 2015 car without HIDs is just stupit. Can't believe they aren't standard. I opted to skip the Performance Pack and DCC, because ultimately it's just a DD car that will live most of it's life running around town and ferrying me to work, the extra $3k just wasn't worth it for how I'm going to use it.
