More Active Safety Systems in Cars Make us LESS Safe
#1
I've believed this for a long time, the more cars that have systems that allow people to inattentive jackasses on the road, the less safe we'll be.

Personally I think there should be active endangerment systems in cars. Like, if it detects you putting on makeup it should slam on the brakes. Take both hands off the steering wheel for more than a second or two, and it sprays you with hot oil. Text while driving and it swerves you off the road into a ditch. That'll learn 'em.

I've had some fun with these cars with my motorcycle. They drive like jerks, I make their car slow down... they drive slow in the left lane... i trigger their blind spot warning set up. I wish more cars had these features!

Sadly, my Mercedes loaner car doesn't have active cruise control or active-brake-for-you-while-you-text so I have to push these two things that protrude from the floorboard. With my FEET.

Can you believe this garbage!?

It seems pretty obvious to me. So why are we headed the wrong way? When I jump on a motorcycle, I am the most engaged, most attentive, and likely more able to avoid an accident. I would imagine most people (with any sort of self preservation) would respond the same. Realize the activity is dangerous and most will either learn how to do it properly, or choose not to do it. If they choose to do it, and not pay attention? Well, that's good 'ol natural selection. The only unfortunate part is when they take someone else out.

It's unfortunate when someone shoots someone too, but I don't like the idea of automating the gun.
