Got a stellar deal at Alexandria VW. $2k less than even the best deals I've seen reported on other forums. I was between this and the MS3. While the power of the MS3 is silly awesome, it's a much less refined car... Pretty much everywhere you look. I was concerned the 200hp wouldn't be enough, but it definitely is; great powerband/scoot whenever. Funny, I always said I'd never own a new car, and I'd never own a VW. I pray to the Bavarian gods that I got a good one.
Specs:
2010 VW GTI
Color: Candy White
Options: Bluetooth, Sunroof, iPod Kit (wasn't supposed to have this... I didn't pay for it... just happened to notice it after about 30 miles of owning it), Mat kit, and HIDs.
Put 50 miles on it tonight (odometer now reads 60). Can't wait to start going on road trips and not hating driving to the store.
No modification plans. I originally thought the 17" base wheels would be a temporary thing (the 18s are ugly), but they've grown on me. Regardless, there are a million options out there, and all sorts of wheels seem to look great on these things (saw C4 wheels on one... looked great). I like the idea of a chip, but again, the 200hp is plenty for now. I'm sure, though, that +50hp and +100ft-lbs for $600 will slowly eat at me.

Nice!! Congrats on the new purchase Mike! They're are so many things you can do with the GTI.. Wvelcome do the dub family!
Dude... Nice!
I assume its a 6 speed and not those DSG shenanigans. I freakin love those cars, they make so much out of 200hp. I thought the same thing climbing on one from the M3 with 50 (hopefully) more hp and a wider power curve, but it holds its own really well.
I love the color, you have the black and red cloth interior right?

Yes, manual.
Yes, black and red cloth interior. The leather is a $3k upgrade.

FTFY. Leather is boring and not unique to the GTI, why pay to make it worse?

The seats it comes with are an upgrade too, but $3k? Come on... That includes the cost of a sunroof too, but still, we're now talking ONLY $2200 for a seat upgrade.

I think the world is going to end in 2012 for sure. Mike has a spankin' new car and it's a VW.
I really like the front end on the 2010's. I seriously looked at them a few months ago, but the new ones weren't really in my price range.

They've come WAY down. I got $4.25k off MSRP.

Nice! I was reading one of those [meaningless] rags and it took the the top spot for exactly what you said about the refinement. With what Mazda did the front end of the 3, I think the VW is best looking too. I don't know what the deal is with C4 wheels on VWs but there is a guy who buys all the later C4 wheels he can to resell.

very awesome! i have the exact set-up with the options: 2dr, HIDs, sunroof, denvers, bluetooth, and mat kit. the iPod cable is standard (MDI hookup). the list of standards in the back of the GTI brochure has it on there. there have been some conflicting statements from the dealer about it though.
I hope it brings you many miles of happiness. I'm loving mine! i'm still shocked that you bought *new* and you bought a VW hock:
i'm planning on APR stage 1 eventually (the price for lbs/hp is ridiculous, even though it doesn't really need it) and i REALLY want the Golf R LED taillights....i may also get the euro light switch. the APR stage 1 brings it to the power class of the MS3, too.
Nice man! Hopefully you won't have issues with your VW like Adam and RJ did  (although to be fair, RJs was modded)
I'd hold off on chipping it and see how it stands up to stock abuse.

Don't worry, a chip would be wayyyyyy in the future. The car has more than enough power for around town.

whoah! hock:
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a van is a good guy with a van
So... This is starting to bug me, and I can't seem to find any answers on the great interwebs. When we were working through financing, I was told that if I took the VW financing, I would not receive a $500 dealer cash that was built into the price of the car... so the price would increase $500. Should I have held them up at that point and walked out? Did I get run for an easy $500? Or is this a common thing? I've never bought a new car... The guy that was there with me didn't find it unusual. Time to write a letter and complain/promise to shit on their dealership all over the Internet?

Makes no sense to me. They make more if you go with mfr financing so I would think it would be the opposite. Unless you got special financing that was part of an either / or deal. "Get x.x% financing or $500 cash back" ??

Yeah I was thinking the same thing....they're going to make more money if you choose to use their financing so they'd ideally give you money off of the car not add to it. Unless like Steve said they offered the option for either a really low interest rate or your choice of dealer cash back.
Depending on what interest rate you got, you may want to consider refinancing. I refinanced my Acura the day after I bought it through a credit union and my rate is like 2.5%+ lower than what it would have been (used car rates are always going to be higher than new cars).

Sounds like bullshit to me. As mentioned, they make made money in the interest, so they prefer you use their bank. Did you get the 1.9% listed on VW's site?
I would have asked to see the documentation that stated that, but hindsight is 20/20. I'm not sure you have much recourse now, other than just complaining.

over $4k off MSRP and you're worried about $500?
Edit - on financing, I did mine through the dealer on the ridgeline. They beat my credit union by a fair amount and I told them that they could have it if they got me the deal on the truck. Everyone wins.

You sometimes see commercials that state some deal where you get cash back OR get some special interest rate. I'm pretty sure you didn't get screwed because they only offered you one or the other but you probably should've done some leg work and see what other banks' interest rates were. Its probably all in the fine print though.
