The new place (Garage)
#1
So, not sure this warrants it's own project thread, but id like input, because a lot of alum have been through 1 or 2 garages.

Per the plans it is an oversized 2 car, but when you compare it to existing 3 cars on other plans, it is the same size, just no 3rd door.

Specs:
Front = 19'8 x 23'5
Rear = 14 x 13'11
9ft x16ft entry
14ft ceiling

This is gonna take some time....

Aesthetics:
Smooth out the rough finished walls and paint the ceiling and walls white.
Install 1/4in 4x8 paneling from cinder block up to protect the walls and paint this a dark grey

Immediate - Seal the concrete
Future - Free Flow Racedeck

Storage/workspace:
These pop up for sale just about every other month at Costco. So as soon as the pop back up the plan is to mount these above the garage door, side by side.
This is where all those tubs on the floor will be stored, seasonal stuff (summer toys, beach chairs) and seasonal decorations (Xmas tree, etc) will go.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.costco.com/SafeRacks-Overhead-Garage-Storage-Combo-Kit-%7c-Two-4-ft.-x-8-ft.-Racks-%7c-18pc-Deluxe-Hook-Accessory-Pack-.product.100133736.html">http://www.costco.com/SafeRacks-Overhea ... 33736.html</a><!-- m -->

[Image: 6NrCk3c.jpg]

My only concern is putting these above the cars = me having to move a car to get to stuff, but that space above the door is essentially useless other wise, and keeping it up there and somewhat out of site makes me think it will look much better than on the sides somewhere.

I am kind of at a stand still with organizing the garage until these go up.

Rubber Maid fast track to the left of the breaker boxes, to store yard tools. I like this stuff given the assortment of hooks and its relatively cheap.

[Image: uaykfxv.jpg]

Some sort of shelving near this space as well for yard stuff (Fertilizer, bug killer, etc)

Matching cabinet to the right of the tool box I snagged from my brother. Where the black/yellow tubs are currently.

[Image: IOGxdhy.jpg]

Matching work bench next to the fridge and 3 cabinets above the work bench.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.samsclub.com/sams/ultra-heavy-duty-workbench/prod1490086.ip">http://www.samsclub.com/sams/ultra-heav ... 1490086.ip</a><!-- m -->

[Image: h4eNpXT.jpg]

Yes I need to get the speaker wire channels to hide the speaker wires.

At some point build a sound proof box around the compressor and have a 75ft hose reel mounted on the wall or plumb air to the work bench, near the tool box and near the garage door.

Lighting:
Currently only have 3 "West VA Chandeliers" to light the whole garage.
I plan on getting about 10 of those 4ft dual LED tube light fixtures from Costco.
4 in the back and 3 above each car.

Stupid:
Hope to get a new TV for the living room, so I will rotate the tvs around and assuming they all stay working, on may end up in the garage above the workbench.

At some point id like to get a lift installed in the back, which is why I am trying to avoid wall mounted shelving, so I can move it based on where the lift may end up.

I skimmed the whole summary.. Save the $$ on racedeck. Since you want to seal the concrete, check out this product: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://store.armorpoxy.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Session_ID=a478413b9310fd1090f525c34e90ec2e&Screen=PROD&Store_Code=A&Product_Code=SPGX-GAL&Category_Code=">https://store.armorpoxy.com/mm5/merchan ... gory_Code=</a><!-- m -->

Better than a typical concrete sealer, and will provide actual protection against oils, etc. If you google for SPGX and garage journal you'll get a few threads on peoples applications. I like it that it's easy to do an your usual epoxy, it's pretty cheap (Company provides a discount for GJ members) and kind of does that cool industrial look for garage floors.

And I'm jelly of your garage.

It wont be leaving anytime soon unless Mazda brings a 6 wagon over here, or someone who isn't german makes a nice wagon, but hopefully a fun car will be added in the next year or so.

I'll have to look into that epoxy more. I looked into Rust Bullet as well, which appears to be a similar product.

SPGX isn't really an epoxy, more of a hybrid of a polyurethane that goes on clear. So its basically those clear concrete sealers, but on steroids.

Racedeck just screams show car garage to me haha.

I feel like racedeck would be a super pain in the ass for a jack or anything that rolls on casters. Also, definitely think about going from the ceiling with the air hose reel and put an electrical one right next to it. Although I'm not sure how annoying it is in a normal height garage. We have like 25ft ceilings but the air hose is def more convenient when it's above everything and doesnt have to be snaked through anything.

Yeah I'm not really worried about pulling all the stuff out of my garage and sealing it since I don't own any project cars or leaky stuff. It's a garage, if it gets dirty I'll power wash it. We don't have an oversized garage in our new place so I'll be looking at some kind of hanging storage. Let me know if you find any good solutions.

That's a sweet garage man, So much room for activities in the front of it! Those costco 4' leds are money, the newer ones have plugs so you can daisy chain up to 4 together.

Were you planning on painting the walls before you get too far into setting up, or just leave them as-is?
Oh, and let me know when you build that compressor box, maybe I can commission you to do a second one.

So I want to at least get this place cleaned up to where I don't want to have an aneurism when I walk in. But I cant go but so far cause I want to try and get the walls painted this winter. Casey's Grandparents own a painting company, and they are slower in the winter, so I can hopefully get them in to do it with the family discount. Nothing is going up on the walls that can't easily be removed or taped off.

1. Seal the concrete, it makes for a nice garage.

2. Holla when you need manpower, I'm down to help.

Buy a few planks of stain-ready wood from lowes/HD/etc, stain it, screw planks high & low to the studs, and then screw hooks to the planks.

Hooks, buy something like this - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.amazon.com/Racor-B-1R-Solo-Vertical-White/dp/B0009I8ANM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1474386965&sr=8-5&keywords=bike+hook">https://www.amazon.com/Racor-B-1R-Solo- ... =bike+hook</a><!-- m -->

whatever you do, if you put down sealer or paint on the floor, add some kind of grit or you're going to be flat on your ass the next time you try to stop on your heels in any moisture.

i threw some Shark Grip on ours when we put epoxy down, and its 100% worth it and isn't so gritty that it will screw up how your crawler/roller stools glide around.

Looks like an awesome space! Dailies in and out of the 2 car spot, project pile on a lift in the oversized nook-thing. It already looks great but I bet a coat of paint would be a game changer.

I thought long and hard about mostly Racedeck but also epoxy...and I'm glad I have neither. Not that my floor looked great to begin with but it's great to drag jacks/stands/parts/tools/etc with reckless abandon.
