Events you've always wanted to run

Inspired by a thread on RoadRace, I was wondering what a bunch of MMers could come up with and maybe figure out a way to make it happen.

I want to do a Chump Car or Lemons race, but the buy-in cost is astronomical and I can't justify it when I have the E36 already.

One Lap sounds fun. BABE Rally sounds fun. Rallycross is something I want to do, but don't want to use my car for.

Oh, and I want to go to more tracks than just Summit and VIR. Got a friend in NJ who wants to do a NJMP weekend with me this summer, so I guess I'll get up there.

Not events per say, but...

- Few laps around the Ring
- Rally School (dirtfish, O'Neil)
- Tracks I'd like to drive: Laguna, Barber, COTA
- One Lap would be awesome -- but I'd like to do a cross-country road trip just as much Tongue

So... it's sounding like we should come up with a BABE team. And then turn that car into a rallycrosser once we're done.

Once you get rich, you shuold sponsor us to go to Targa NewfoundLand. I can provide the car

With that said, are you interested in doing the Dragon Hillclimb or even a PA hillclimb in my car? Work out costs and it might be doable.

Confusedhock: yeah i'd look really hard at it. they're dangerous events by nature and me being a dad now makes me pause a bit, but in a fully caged car i'd be more willing to try it (thus the "always wanted to" dream aspect). if i get some funds in order someday we'll talk.

a lot of you guys have touched on rallyx. if any of your are willing to spend most of your Sunday driving to middle of nowhere NC, let's talk. I'll try to get you in a seat, either in my car or maybe one of the other regulars if I can't for some reason. The local club has a beater they pass around that is fast in the hands of the experienced and would make a great "arrive and drive" car.

Seems like we have some common themes.

Laguna
Rally of some sort
Nurburgring

We could probably make a group vacation to Laguna happen if we planned far enough in advance. Bike track days would be pretty easy. Just sign up for California Superbike School and rent one of their S1000RR's. For a car track day we'd probably have to rent Spec Miatas. There may be faster cars for rent but we'd probably have to do a fair bit of asking around.

John and Chan did a group trip to Nurburgring a couple of years back. That trip would be pretty easy to coordinate. Could also catch Formula 1, Moto GP or the 24 Hours of Le Mans while we're out there.

Rallying would probably be the hardest to do unless we all went out to one of the rally schools together.

Man you and me both. It's such a shame that the Superbike School at that track fell through, it was one of the best tracks on both the F1 and Moto GP calendars.

I've always wanted to drive something like Formula Mazda as well. I feel like I need to drive some shifters for a bit before I attempt to drive a real FM though (especially the Renesis powered model).

For those who may also be interested, Bondurant's racing school has a pretty hardcore shifter kart curriculum that might be worth a try. They also have some Formula car courses:

Bertil Roos might also be a decent option, and they have schools at VIR:

Count me in for BABE shenanigans, whenever MM gets a group to do it. There are a bunch of events I'd like to attend (not necessarily run) - shows all over the place, Hot Rod Power Tour, a european F1 race, drive the 'ring, SEMA (must find a way - I still have some old OG business cards and I hear its not that hard to get in), etc.

Also, I totally want to do some more "real" karting. I did a session of TAG single-speed stuff at Miller in Utah and that was a blast. Makes a ton more sense to me than messing around with full size cars for track stuff, though Miatas are almost as easy.

What Id really like to do now that my time vs. money curve has flipped from when I was younger, is an arrive-and-drive race series, in purpose built race cars (or karts!), for not obscene money.
I toyed pretty hard with the Ariel Atom VIR series last spring, even got wife approval, but the buy-in was a little too steep and I couldnt justify it while being so out of practice.

I really wish there was a good solid formula ford/mazda series in this area. SCCA is too thinly attended even if I had the time to work on the car myself.
I know there is a barber race series, but its way over-priced and way under-talented.
