2011 135i Msport vs 2011 Audi S4
#1
Hey guys, my name is Chris Chrzan ('13) and I haven't been on this forum since probably running for officer in 2012. Anyway - good to be back and I have a question I was hoping you could help me with..

Deciding between 2011 135i w/ MSport package and 101k vs 2011 Audi S4 w/ 108k (+3k more expensive). I'm mostly looking for the driving feel/experience over practicality (my last DD was a 2006 Z4 so anything would be easier after that). The S4 hasn't had the DSG issue pop up yet (so it may be pending) and also hasn't had the timing chain tensioner issue (yet); the 135 has the N55 engine which is MUCH more reliable and I have already fixed most related issues in my Z4 like coolant expansion tank etc so I would know how to tackle those projects. I'm leaning toward BMW, because, well, it's a convertible and I need Vitamin D or I get S.A.D. quick.

Hit me with it...

Hey man! sounds like you need a 1976 2002 in your life. I might know a guy.

As much as I love the Audi, if you don't need 4 doors, get the 135 and hit up Justin for how to ziptie a piggyback tune in.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Get the 1 series. However, they don't have much space inside. Not sure what your "practical" needs are.

the s4 doesn't have a whole lot of room in the back anyway. i love VAG products, but i'd opt for the 135i there.

just saw that the 135i is a vert. as long as it doesn't have an issue with the top leaking or anything. having a vert without a way to cover it or get any water leak issues resolved quickly could be a real big PITA.

No one is going to say S4 so that we can observe the future pain of owning an S4?

What are the odds of 2 MM alumni 12’/13’ getting back on forums the same week? Is there a pandemic or something going on? Pick up the 2 door convertible while you still can before the 4 door rule kicks in  Wink

Long lost update - went with the 135 and absolutely loving it. Ken, the story may never die, but you might.

Have a CP, FMIC on order. Anyone know how easy it is to get around Virginia emissions when it comes to having catless DP?

Also - anyone have a lift and a spare set of hands one of these here weekends in the coming months?

If you get an answer, let us know. We're all looking for that Nova Holy Grail inspection station, but I think there's probably a lot on the line to fudge the emissions tests.

I'm happy to lend garage space/a hand, but I don't have a lift. I'm sure the DP on that is a huge pain compared to other cars.

the easiest way to get around the emissions requirement is to garage it another county (not FFx or any county that requires it).
