I bought a few things from Bray and Scarf. The sales guy was super helpful and schooled me to the game of induction ranges, which I ended up buying and have been super happy with. Delivery experience was very good.

One thing to look for is that several of the appliance makerd will have generous rebate deals if you're buying multiple products. I ended up getting a $900 gift card from GE some I got everything from them other than the fridge.

Same thing happened to us at our local retailer. Induction was more money, but the demo convinced me it was worth the cost. Now, I'll never have anything but induction if I can help it.

Induction is nice. Especially if gas is a non-option. I haven't used induction enough to say I would choose it over gas. But man I fucking hate our electric cooktop.

I almost went with induction, but the $1k additional cost plus the fact that we would've had to get all new cookware (only a few pieces would've worked) meant to us it wasn't worth it. We may look toward that down the road, but we're happy with the oven so far. I just wish we had two.

I have gas for the hot water heater, going to have the guys run a line up to the kitchen so I can have a gas range.  I really wanted a double wall oven but I had to choose between that and a big pantry cabinet and it lost out.

We got gas in the new house... The oven definitely heats up faster but I'm not sure about the top being that much faster for like boiling water. I'm sure it is but one thing I find kind of annoying (and kind of good sometimes) is all but one of the burners is big. One is small, one is huge and two are big. So if you're using smaller pots or pans, most of the time the heat is coming around the sides with wire quite a bit and it gets really hot trying to stir things. I guess it's just something I'll need to get used to but so far I like it better than electric. I guess the induction stoves are much better than the induction hot plate I have. I don't care for it that much although it definitely works better than a regular hot plate. The magnet is so small though that it only heats the center of my pans. I'm sure they are much nicer to clean than all the nooks and big cast iron grates of my gas though.

Having had gas in my last house and now induction, I think I'd choose induction every time. Much faster heat up times, more even heating, no dicking around with pilot lights, no risk of grease fires.

If a house already had a gas range I wouldn't get rid of it though. New house didn't have gas at all so the cost of install would've been a few thousand just to get to the house.

I used to be a GAS OR GTFO guy. Induction is just that good. Think about it - everything else in our life is digital, why are our stove control analog? Also, cleanup ease destroys gas.

We have a dual oven induction and the wife and I still talk about how it was so worth the money... four years later.

I don't think I'll ever understand why people pay 3x for a damn drawer microwave when there's that wasted space above the stove. Your kitchen isn't an open kitchen restaurant and it's not gonna be in a Bon Appetit spread, so you're just wasting space. And no, you don't need that level of venting. I guess just care more about maximizing my use of space than I do things looking nice.

Hmmmm maybe I'm wrong about this then. Going induction means I need to rethink the whole arrangement and figure out how to get a wall oven since there's only one double oven induction top range.

Oh, yeah, that's asinine. Ours vents to the outside but we rarely need it as we don't sear steak and my wife doesn't burn shit on the induction like she used to gas.

It doesn't do a good job of venting to begin with, but that wasn't a huge priority for us.

I'll bring it up with the contractor tomorrow, they're supposed to come by the house and poke around inside the walls we want to remove and walk through the design one more time before we commit to ordering cabinets.

I guess I hadnt considered induction to be such a life changing purchase...

Another outside venting microwave here. We use it fairly frequently now that the wife is pregnant and uber sensitive to smells. Our GE microwave moves a good amount of air.

You have probably seen most microwaves vent inside because they are on interior walls.

There are so many little choices when kitchen reno-ing. Sometimes affecting other choices... Annoying.

We got the outside vented microwave as an option. It's a builders grade GE and it vents really poorly. Thought it would at least be better than my dad's that just vented inside but not really. Range hood is definitely worth it if you do a fair amount of cooking. I try not to sear inside but sometimes, it's just the best option. Maybe a more expensive microwave would vent better. But I read like the best venting microwave which is like a $500 ge doesn't vent anywhere close to as good as a vent Hood.

I'd kill for a hood. And my gas doesn't have a pilot so that's one plus for modern gas. All auto ignition which is nice...I guess until it fails.

Also, tankless water heater for the fckng win. I think they only ran like one hot water line up for our wahser and shower even though they are nowhere near each other and the washer doesn't even use that much water (on warm) because it messes with the shower but never having to worry about running out of hot water is awesome and not paying to heat a giant tank of water all day and night sounds like it'll be awesome too.

We haven't had any issues. Maybe the difference between induction and gas? I feel like things smoked a lot more with gas because, in my head, the nuances of temp was pickier.

Our kitchen layout had no space for a double oven or one of those stacked oven/microwave things.

So if we went hood, we'd have to put a microwave on the counter.

We would have had to vent up and over our garage, a microwave isn't strong enough to vent that distance.

Its gotta be easier to burn using gas, since you are always a hair away from perfect and nuclear hot.
