The 2008 RAV4 vs 2017 GTI:

21% heavier
8% longer
8% taller

Tell me again how the GTI killed the 3 Series wagon? I'm not following the Chain Logic here.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. meh I was a couple years off. But the 2005 is dead on. I guess my bored-guy-stiring-the-pot "logic" is that a modern GTI IS a CUV. And neither has much to do with even heavier overpriced automatic wagons that still only seat 5.

This does, though.

I fail to see how you can classify a GTI as a CUV but whatever floats your boat.

I think the point he's making is the hatchback has grown to the size of old small size SUVs, so essentially it checks the boxes for what a CUV is supposed to do. While not being the same thing on the surface and lacking the ride height.

Doing this has edged the modern hatchback into the space in the market that wagons used to fill, which is helping kill them.

Right?

Two men gain a connection when one breaks a mirror of the other's mini van.

I know you and Taylor sorted it out, but the GTI is a hatchback and the Tiguan is a Golf-gone-CUV.

You can work with screwy logic but I can be pedantic-as-fuck so I guess we all win.  Big Grin

the appropriate response (throwback) is:

:?:

what's crazy to me is that modern hatches (the boxier ones) are essentially wagons of yester-year in terms of cargo capacity. CUVs and SUVs now are just slightly larger for cargo (not typically for passenger space) that typically have a better step-in height and a few more inches of ground clearance that the majority of vehicle buyers think they need... I can understand the desire for a higher step-in height and a marginal benefit for safety when factoring in a vehicle crash involving vehicles of differing types (heavy/higher/big vs light/lower/small).

Now here's a wail I could get behind. Aston's 1000hp V12 Valkyrie engine, built by Cosworth. Ran for a simulated 100,000 miles too. Scroll down on the link for the video, it won't let me embed it.

Mmm yeah I can get behind that. It's a shame we'll probably never see one of those at a NASA event. I do suspect some of the rich guys bring their toys out to more supercar oriented track days or private events though.

That article is so poorly written it's hard for me to assign any significance to this. Sorry, it has cam gears? So then they turned it around to reduce the chain noise? And it revs really fast oh? Is it, you know, connected to anything? It lasted 100k miles not connected to anything!
Amazing!

Looks like Ford finally had their press launch of the new Ranger, and responses are generally positive.

https://jalopnik.com/the-2019-ford-range...1831147912

Found a Reddit comment comparing it in size to the old Ranger, and it's far closer than I thought it was:

Here's the old compact Ranger compared to the new midsize Ranger, SuperCab/6' bed 4x4 model (new SuperCrew/5' is identical):

OAL: 208" vs. 211"
WB: 126" vs. 127"
W: 69" vs. 72"
H: 68" vs. 71.5"

Hopefully it sells well, I think it's fairly handsome and 310 ft-lb from the little Squeakoboost is not bad at all.
