The Super Official Homeowners Thread
[Image: S28fn8h.jpg]

Been working on remodeling the kitchen.  Got to the last bolt on this microwave that holds the front side to the cabinets.  Clink.  The fucking nut inside the sheet metal on top fell off and into the abyss of the machine.  Stupid fucking design to start with.  No way to disassemble to find it and try to put back.  3 hours later after a home depot trip i managed to cut down a washer,  super glued with a nut on it and wire tied it into place just long enough to catch and allow me to tighten the bolt. This is why there is no worl peace.

Also i recently bought an oscillating saw.  Best tool ive bought in years for cutting things in tight places.

No replacement for an oscillating saw. My twin brother bought me one as a present when I remodeling my first house and it has come in useful countless times. It is by far the easiest way to do trim/edge work and for creating smal corrections to allow something to fit tightly, be it an appliance, corner molding, or a door frame on top of new tile.

Yeah, getting new quartz counters as well. I bought a 2nd island section to make it big enough for 4-5 people is how this all got started. Have a couple more lights to put in,

So I figure most of ya’ll saw the pics between facebook and the chat of the mower doing its job. We had 15” of heavy, wet, snow here, which is at the very top end/possibly more than, this mower is made to handle. My driveway slopes downhill from the house to the road, and it did really good downhill, it wouldn’t do much uphill though. Once I got an initial cut down the middle I was able to make passes with the blade angled and multiple passes in each direction managed to clear the entire driveway. This was with a 42” blade.

About 3/4 done my neighbor showed up with his sons mower, a X758, 4wd, 3 cylinder diesel, with a hydraulic controlled 54” blade. He made quick work of what few parts my little GT225 wouldn’t move. Overall I’m happy. Me and JB (neighbor) proceeded to plow most of the driveways on our road (about 10), before calling it quits. Plowing show with a riding mower, even when it’s deeper than the mower should be able to handle, is absolute hillbilly heaven. I wish we could get weekly snow so I could use this thing!

What are they going to do if you do nothing?

Goes to some review board, who will fine you.  If you dont pay the fine they put a lien on the house.

Now, I agreed to 90 days with the buyer.  Reston will give me 6 months to fix it.

If they fine you, do you still have to re-paint? And/or is the fine less than the cost of re-painting?

That'd probably be my fuck you way out of it, still sucks though.

It's a totally different experience getting snow in the south.  People rocking out in their lifted golf karts drinking, quads going zooming by; it's quite the stark difference from NOVA.  Even saw one of those side by sides briefly flying by the entrance of our neighborhood on the main street.

I guess there are no rednecks in Reston? We get there where I live pretty often. Good mix of white collar and blue collar population though.

#sheltered,   I grew up in Vienna, and then moved to Reston.  There wasn't any of this stuff.

I mean, even if they fine you they still have to repaint it and if you pay the fine and tell them to fuck off, the next owner will have a hard time selling it, the HOA can block providing resale documents which no lender will touch.

I havent done anything yet other than talk to a local painter who said they can match and repaint it when the weather is warmer.  We talked before but they passed on trying to paint it in cold weather.  Its likely that we dont see 50 degrees again until March so who knows.

And rednecks in reston, that gave me a hearty lol.  No, we dont have rednecks here.... this place is like pleasantville. Pretty sure the neighbors would be after you with pitchforks if you were out in the parking lot doing donuts in a quad brappity brap brap. Hell, they look at me funny doing donuts in the snow in my wagon.

All completely accurate.  I'm not even making this up, some 16 year old girl flipped her golf cart right in front of our house in the cul de sac.  I was walking to get the mail and saw them fly around the corner into our street flat out on two wheels.  I waved at her to slow down and about 10 seconds later heard a BOOM.  She's lucky she didn't seriously hurt her cart mate, he messed up his foot pretty bad though.  I gave her a lot of crap and explained that golf carts can flip easily even in stock trim, when they're all lifted like a brodozer with big tires like her dad's was it makes it even worse.

carts are a super popular toy in our neighborhood too and i hate to say it but i'm really surprised we haven't had a major accident yet. parents let their kids drive these jacked up things all over the place loaded down with 5-6 kids. i can tell most don't have their driver's licenses yet and are all over the road, no awareness at all. with the amount of brodozers we have flying around through our streets its only a matter of time.

It's not a southern thing. It's a "not being in a shithole with people stacked on top of each other" thing.

Nova is such a shithole bubble of fake bullshit. No one is living real life here.

its a little different in my town considering we host The Masters and Club Car's factory is 5 miles away.  but yeah a lot of neighborhoods here are built around carts and cart paths.  that's what happens when (A) a ton of old people move here, (B) the ground is flat and open and ( C) there's no snow and the pool's open 7 months out of the year
