I've recorded videos of many things and they refused to watch them. I get it, the tech needs to see it in order to know it's fixed.
Yeah, all of these things are minor and I need to keep perspective on it. I just feel like everything I do nowadays involves a million calls back and forth and jumping through hoops. I'm aware that is being an adult.

Limping a car home from a track day with no brakes is a rite of passage.
In my WRX, I drove it from BeaveRun (now Pittrace) worn to the point of a hole in the pad and backing plate that you could see through. Through the mountains of the PA Turnpike. Good times.
I remember RJ and Gerald having brake drama too.
Then we drove in the snow uphill both ways

In my HPDE days, three of us triple-teamed a Miata (DE 1, DE 4, Time Trial) and the owner had to drive it home with judicious use of the handbrake because the pads were that worn by the end. Good stuff.

Bummer man, I feel your frustration. It's not just VW, as cars get so reliant on computers and electronics it seems that all makes succumb to electrical issues. Some just more frequently (and serious) than others.

So, replaced the front pads since they were either on the backing plates or cracked in half.
The rears still had 70% material or more left, so I didn't touch those. May return the pads or hang onto them as spares.
These rotors are insanely large. THESE ARE ON A HATCH BACK.

I'm just happy that you've been using the gti as intended (sporty cars should be on the track on occasion). I definitely wish I put mine to better use.
those rotors are comical. what is that a 320mm disc? VW not messing around...

Same size as the golf R and s3 I believe. 340x30
8 years prior and it was 272mm, haha.

Hopefully this trend continues so in a couple more years I can buy GTI rotors and not $1200 ones for the RS6. Only have a little more to go to get to 365x34!
I hoped it wouldn't happen, but it seems it did. Serious shake under braking, most likely warped rotors. Has anyone had luck turning rotors on a new car? I guess I'll just get new rotors and be done with it. What a shame.
Safelite ordered a new OE windshield under warranty to replace the crappy after market one that doesn't fit right and rattles. Unfortunately, it cracked in transit, so they ordered another that just now got here. I'm scheduled for them to come replace it Tuesday at the same time as my interview. Whoops.
I also called the dealer to schedule to have my head unit screen replaced and have them look into the LED light flicker/speaker rattle, and kicked and screamed until I got a loaner. (Actually, I just asked nicely and they said "okay, you just have to wait until December"). So December 11th, hopefully the car will be almost back to not being broken and shitty, at least for a little bit.
These tires are toast from the track weekends scrubbing the outer 1/2 inch of tread event at 50 PSI hot. So I guess I'll be shopping for tires in the spring.

Anyway, my year GTI (2018 SE) has unique brakes as far as GTIs go. This is because the 2018 Golf R and higher trims of GTI share the same brakes. I'm having a very hard time finding anywhere that says that replacement pads for this car even exist. I don't know anything about Golf Rs. Does anyone know if the Golf R has used the same brakes 15-18?
FYI based on that pad, you have destroyed your rotors as well. I suggest if you keep going down this path you get a sperate set of front pads and rotors for tracking and another set for daily. Slapping some race pads on the stock rears should be fine.
It’s called pad deposits. With how hot that pad got, it transferred unevenly to the rotor. “Warping rotors’s themselves is somewhat of a misnomer. Usually centric/rock auto blanks are cheap enough that turning a rotor (and most shops won’t nowadays) isn’t worth it.

I tried "bedding" them a few times and the shaking would go away for a second then come back. Ordered some OE rotors from FCP for $200. Tracking is expensive even when you aren't even really doing it.
Anyone have luck doing this? http://www.stoptech.com/technical-suppor...it-removal
I'd really like to salvage these rotors to have as spares. $200 an axle isn't easy to swallow especially when these OE rotors are still really meaty.

Gotta have a really aggressive pad. Your stoptech street/track aren’t aggressive e enough.

Has anyone found a guide on where I can jack this car from somewhere other than the pinch welds? I've never owner a FWD car. I've found guides saying to do a weird series of jacking that ends with you using the front subframe as the last step once it's on 3 stands already. Can I just jack from there to start?

If the pinch welds are exposed enough, I like to get a 2 or 3 foot section of wood and jack one side of the car up via the weld in the middle of the car, place 2 stands where the jack points on the weld are, then repeat for the other side. It really depends on if there are brake lines / fuel lines or plastic tabs for the side skirts that may get crushed.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Find the factory service manual. There's likely a jackpoint in front somewhere.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
