I had a similar shit show on windshield replacement with my car. Make them fix it or refund the money and go to the dealer.

While we are on this topic, is the dealer the best place for a windshield replacement? I have heard that the glass Safelite and like companies use can be distorted. No idea if that is true or not.

Dealers outsource to 'glass guys'. I asked about this when we replaced our GSW windshield. You also need to request OE glass otherwise they're going to give you aftermarket (which is typically thinner and doesn't fit as well).

With an older car is just get aftermarket glass, but with newer cars I'd get OE. a few hundred $$ more is something I'd pay for regarding windshield glass. Fwiw

Yes... I had to pay more because my insurance only covered the cost for aftermarket.

The dealer will outsource the glass but you can have a dealer tech look after the install with all the factory service tools.

But at the end of the day most glass installers are monkeys and cant do a proper job on anything that has an OBD2 port.

Did you put the LED's in or do they come with LED's? Cheap LED's can be finicky.

Have you checked the contacts? Maybe a little corrosion could be causing poor connection. Unless it's factory hardwired LED's and not a bulb style situation. Then ignore entire post

I wouldn't expect factory LEDs to be having issues; that's a concern I'd want fixed, too.

I bought LEDs (deautokey bulbs) for our GSW tails and was having a small issue that ended up being a connection point needing to be bent a bit to have a better contact area with the housing unit. No issues afterwards.

Everything on this car is stock and untouched by me except a tow hook, license plate mount, and a blow off valve adapter.

Otherwise completely stock at 11,000 miles. It hasn't really been mistreated, but it's been used. It's already had two oil changes.

I can assure you none of these issues are of my doing except the cracked windshield. I did ask the dealer to take a look at the windshield and they said it's "fine".

Well, we don't know if they're taking care of me yet. Still waiting on a call from their manager to see if they'll get the OE glass under my insurance.

So, the main thing he pointed out was that the OE windshield has parts that are opaque to cover the inside of the rain sensor. The aftermarket ones have this, but they're the wrong shape, so the black doesn't cover up al of the sensor and you can see "inside" it. It's weird.

Main concerns for me are that, the fact that the edges of the glass are below the roof line while the middle sits higher. (Seems bowed). The soundaktor rattles now, which I would assume is from the glass/trim. The cowl trim seems more lose than Zach's now. Also the plastic is aligned on the rain sensing wiper sensor at all and isn't even connected to the rest of the plastic behind the mirror. If I tap the mirror, it sets off my wipers.

More details later, but the GTI continues to be an absolute monster on the track. I started having brake issues in my last two sessions, but letting my brakes cool off help. I was wondering how they were getting so hot, and it seems it's because they were SUPER THIN. As I was leaving the track, I heard the brakes and new either my pad had fallen apart, or I was rubbing metal on metal. Got home and pulled off the pads....

Anyway, my year GTI (2018 SE) has unique brakes as far as GTIs go. This is because the 2018 Golf R and higher trims of GTI share the same brakes. I'm having a very hard time finding anywhere that says that replacement pads for this car even exist. I don't know anything about Golf Rs. Does anyone know if the Golf R has used the same brakes 15-18?

Pads should be available.

https://www.tirerack.com/brakes/results....utoModClar=

I'd search based on the part numbers on the tire rack site; they're usually pretty good about fitment. I'd double check the rears since there are options.

If you're going to track the gti next year with any frequency I'd definitely recommend a set of track brake pads and a separate wheelset with some good rubber. Night and day braking, you will find.

FCP Euro is your friend. Lifetime warranty on 'em too. They show some sets (the link is for a 2018 SE) with "288 mm front rotor" and others "for 340 mm front rotor" which is, I'm assuming, the Golf R brakes.
