For all of our CX-5 lovers, it's finally getting a turbo

According to the 2019 Mazda CX-5 U.S. order guide, leaked to the world on Reddit, it’s finally getting the more powerful engine it deserves. By tossing 250 horsepower worth of CX-9 2.5-liter turbo motor into the CX-5, it might finally have the guts to match its sporty visuals.
The turbocharged engine will be available in two new upmarket trim packages—Grand Touring Reserve and Signature—for the CX-5, introduced as part of this visual and performance update for the 2019 model year.

Agreed. I didn't find our CX-5 to be slow, but it could have used more low end torque. I think this is a good engine choice.

We have one, likely gone around the new year though. Likely going to end up with something a bit bigger though. I think the turbo is definitely a welcome addition. As is, it does OK when empty, but loaded up it's really slow and annoying through the hills.

This came about 3-4 years too late for us. Wifey loved the CX-5 but felt it was a bit too slow and ended up with a X3 35i. Had this option been available we almost certainly would've bought the CX-5.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯   I think it has plenty of power.    Even driving the entire blue ridge parkway with the family it was fine.  

If my car got totalled today,  Id buy another CX-5 tomorrow, but I wouldnt pay an extra $5k for a turbo.

Sounds like the turbo variant is only on the top trim level, which ends up at an eye-watering $37k. I'd want something larger with three rows for that kind of money - Pilot, Highlander, CX9, Explorer, whatever.

I'm guessing all those wind up much higher once you factor in all the features that the top trim would give on the Mazda.

I saw that, and it's exactly what that car needs. I find ours painfully slow, it does not inspire confidence in passing situations. Unfortunately I'm going to drive this thing into the ground, because of the accident history I'm not going to lose all the equity I put into it for a newer version.

I guess this car lives in a real grey area for some people, i really don't find it that slow. Although, I suppose, "inspires confidence" is highly subjective. There are definitely some moves i don't even attempt that i would have in my old cars, but i feel like that should go without saying.

Yeah if you look at my car history I guess I am a little jaded, but it is definitely one of the slower small SUV's I've driven lately (I think I got spoiled by the SQ5 I test drove, but even my wife's old RDX was more than a second and a half faster to 60 than this CX5)

As cool as a center seat hypercar can be, this thing looks like a nondescript early nineties concept car. Maybe it'll look better in a different color but it seems kinda meh to me. All of 'em are sold already tho so I guess it doesn't matter, these cars are money-printing machines for supercar makers.
