I've been kicking around the idea of going nest when my 3yes at front point is up

I’ve been looking into the Nest Secure which is pretty on par in most circumstances to comparable products.  I like frontpoint but I want to be able to be able to utilize 1 app and I have a fair amount of Nest products already. It appears they do a $30 a month monitoring service, so cheaper than the competition in regards to that.  Upfront cost is more expensive so that’s a minus. I recently stopped ADT so I’ll be making a switch soon.

Noice! I think you will like it, their customer service is excellent if I have ever had any glitches or problems with both software and hardware, which has been rare. And the equipment works like it should

Good thing about most of this stuff Front point/Simplisafe/etc, is it is all interchangeable thanks to zwave.

So if someone stops doing their job, I'll get monitoring servce elsewhere using the same sensors/locks/cameras.

Hell ADT and Brinks are Alarm.com systems now, just do their own monitoring.

Liking Frontpoint so far, although I had to call a couple times to get some sensors hooked up.

I also installed a 4MP POE camera system from Reolink and am really liking it. Took about 8 hours for me to run all the cable / crimp the CAT6A ends / install the cameras. I can access the system from anywhere via my phone and it does motion alerts via email / phone, as well as store 8 days of continuous footage. Configuration was straight forward.

My parents are building a house at the beach and set to move in the spring (yay!). I'm on the hook for all their home electronics stuff and they want an alarm/security system while we are in there.

I don't remember which video doorbell I bought them for Christmas but it's either a Skybell or a Ring. I'll have Dad look. Ideally that would tie in to whoever's software. We will want to monitor the front and back doors, garage door (for up/down), carbon monoxide, and I suppose, smoke detectors as well. It looks like motion detectors in the large rooms are better than putting a sensor on every single window, is that the case?

I want to set them up with a few Echos around the house and other typical smart equipment (thermostat, some lighting) but having this tie in to Alexa would be cool too. Ultimately though, just having "an app" on their phones that would be the home security app and allow them to check on status, change status, get notified of problems, etc is good enough.

Thoughts? I looked at Frontpoint, Alarm.com, Simplisafe, and the Ring Alarm but can't really make heads or tails of which is the best.

Front point and alarm.com are the same thing, sorta.

Alarm.com is the guts/backend, Front Point is the monitoring and customer service provider.

IMO Front Point or Simplisafe is the way to go.

I'd love to switch from FP over the Nest, cause Google, but they don't cut breaks on the equipment like FP does.

Alexa and Google Assistant work with most everything.

Unless something has changed, avoid Ring.

Asking because if you are going occupy the house with the system enabled, motion sensors are not a good choice for main interior living spaces. You are better off with door sensors and a glass break sensors in areas with lots of windows.

Frontpoint's Armed Stay disables the motion sensors. Armed Away enables them, which is probably a good idea for a vacation property that is unoccupied for days at a time. 

We use glassbreak sensors and I don't think they're that reliable. I can't speak to false negatives because we haven't had a break in, but two pots clanging or my kid crying loudly has set the thing off. I guess it's better to be overly sensitive, but still, they seem to be more about loud noises than actual glass breaking.

SimpliSafe you can choose what sensor reacts to what and wether it’s armed or timedelayed. As well as when it’s armed in away or stay.

I really appreciate it because I want instant alarm on back door, motions, glass breakage etc, but alarm delay of say 35 seconds on front door to allow me to disable the alarm when walking through the door.

Also set it so basement movement/garage/glass breakage and all entry points go off but the main living area motions were disabled in “stay” mode (whenever I’m not home or we are just staying inside).

No idea on front point, and it may have better but simplisafe has been just about perfect for us. Only one time we really used it was when Jess’ mom set it off and they called when we were at the beach and I sent the cops (I didn’t know she was going). Didn’t get charged for the false alarm and the service was quite good compared to the ADT garbage we had at the last house.
It was quite entertaining to review the video of my mother in law freaking out, worth it.

I actually think ADT uses alarm.com backend stuff now. But their pricing was higher than FP last I checked.
